Hey byz-
I am so glad you took that in a good way, I didn’t mean to sound like a dick. Whew1
Anyway, I know what you mean, and you had (have?) a point.
I know this is the pit, but I am no good at unfounded flames. There are those who would say that I am no good at flaming period, but fuck 'em. Heh.
Anyway, more to the point:
Strait, I know there is no chance that I actually will come over and fix your system for you. The chances of you giving a total stranger directions to your house that you met on the internet must be less than zero.
I bring it up because now I am curious-where do you live? Do you live here in Abq with me and NTG? (no we don’t live together, I don’t even know her, I meant in the same city.)
If so, maybe I could show up when you truck it into the country store just to see if I can help or something.
And don’t worry… Lexicon=happily with Mrs. Lexicon.
I am just trying to help, that’s all. And I think I could get you fixed up.
And getting back to byzantine:
(Since this is the pit, after all.)
Hey, smarty-ass. You think you know a lot huh? You don’t know jack! Why don’t you stick to make-up and gardening!
See? If I am not really mad at something that someone said that is truly pit-worty, I can’t flame to save my ass.
Unless it’s larrigan. I have no idea why, and I think I am at fault here, but I don’t like that guy. But this is another thread entirely…
“Winners never quit and quitters never win, but those who never win and never quit are idiots.”
Lex – nice try on the flame! However, I don’t WEAR make-up but I do garden. And you’re right, I don’t know Jack. Your new boyfriend, isn’t he? And why don’t you go back home and get yourself a big, heaping glass of shut the fuck up.
For the humor impaired that was a joke, nothing but. Your results may have settled during shipping. See your qualified health care provider for assistance.
P.S. Lex, love the sig line!
Best!

Voted most sex obsessed. (Yeah, blow me smart ass!)
Hiya Lex…hope you didnt think i was trying to hit on ya/flirt with you…yada yada…just paying you a compliment. I’m very happy w/mr. strait as well!! hehehe…i live in el paso, so i’m still a bit away from you&the mrs. I just think its neat to have people that live so close to me. Have a good one!
Hey strait, I know that you weren’t hitting on me, I just wanted to make sure that you knew I wasn’t hitting on you! What was I thinking? You should be used to guys hitting on you, I shouldn’t have worried about it. Anyway, I hope everyting works out.
And byzantine, I am no good at empty flames! YOu are killing me with kindness! Arrrrrgh! I’m melting, meeeeeeelllllllltttttiiiingggg!
And oh yah, thanks!

On the other hand, you are responsible for backing up your own data. It’s not tech support’s responsibility to worry about your data. If you read your warranty (from ANY manufacturer) it will state clearly that they accept no liability or responsibility for your data. They are only responsible for your computer in its original configuration, and do not get paid to troubleshoot the details of your particular software configuration.
What you people are asking for is a software consultant. That costs money. When I do freelance consulting & troubleshooting, I charge upwards of $100 an hour. If preserving the current data is a concern, the price goes up.
Pay for what you want. If you want free help under your manufacturer’s warranty, then accept that you may well lose data.
If you say it, mean it. If you mean it, do it.
If you do it, live it. If you live it, say it.
You know, Joe Cool, you are right that it is not the responsibility of tech support to worry about our data.
But it sure is nice for them to be considerate of it and is horrible customer service for them not to. I am very aware of what a warranty states regarding this issue and realizes that manufactures are not responsible for the data if it is lost. They will offer no repercussion of any loss of data no matter how it is loss.
If a tech decides to format reload a system and does not inform the person they are going to loose their data they are heartless and probably go work in Sales.
Remeber, it only takes a second to say “This will erase everything on your drive, so if there’s anything you want to save, tell me now so we can stop and you can back it up and you can call back when you’re ready.”

Why don’t you try to pull your head out of your ass?
Clicking here What is UBB code?might help, too.
