Simple: If you disagree with it, it’s satire and you’re an idiot for attacking it. If you agree with it, please to buy a subscription and join our merry band. It’s a couple steps stupider than traditional dog-whistle racism and the racism of unstated assumptions.

If you’re at McGill, why bother walking through a pastoral Chinatown? Six blocks east and three south and you can walk through a _commercial_ Chinatown.

Satire is supposed to have the bite of wit to it, which explains why modern “conservatives” are so bad at it. There used to be conservative satirists who deserved the name (PJ O’Rourke, for one, although he always had the old conservative problem of making punching down funny, too) but the right wing hasn’t produced even a blatant comedian with anything worth laughing at (well, with, anyway) in a couple of generations.

Swift was obvious satire? Does that mean I need to clear my fridge of leftovers?

I miss the old P J O’Rourke, before he became a lazy caricature of himself: I never agreed much with his politics, but damn the man could write and he was as funny as hell. His travel writing was exceptional.
