# Gay civil union law - ruin society?

My marriage certificate does not say ‘holy matrimony’ anywhere. We had a non-religious marriage celebrant and god was not mentioned once.  
Is this not part of the slippery slope arguement? If athiests can get married, then anyone can!  
I believe this is why NZ is going for a civil union - it leaves marriage as a thing for the heterosexual believers.
