Did anyone see the ad for the new Gay Dating Show? Supposedly they are going to bring in a few straight people to try and trick the gay contestants into picking them.
\ Why would anyone _straight_ want to go out with anyone _gay_? It’s not like they are compatiable. I think its cruel.

To be blunt, it’s a stupid concept. Fine, have a gay dating show. There’s nothing wrong with that at all…
But why have straight people on it? What’s the point?
No other “straight” dating shows have closet gay guys vying to be chosen. It would defeat the purpose of the show.
I think the whole idea is that they think the audience will point, laugh and say, “Oooo… he’s gay and he didn’t realize he chose a straight guy! Now he won’t have a chance at a relationship! Ha Ha!”
It’s a sad insult to the viewers intelligence. I realize that I’m being a bit harsh here, but still… I just don’t get the point.

I too would like to see a 'bian dating show…but I think for different reasons… (providing my assumptions regarding your gender are correct 🙂 )
Yeah the whole thing with tricking them…hasn’t there been enough mockery of the poor queer that falls for the straight guy/girl and gets screwed over?
But deceit seems to be the norm on these “reality” shows anyway.

Even on “Dog Eat Dog” which airs Tuesday nights at 8…the last 2 shows have shown men dressed as women and women dressed as men and the contestant has to tell the right sex.

I saw an interview with the “star” of the show this morning on The Today Show. Granted, I wasn’t paying total attention so I might have missed something, but what I gathered from the interview, the twist was “sprung” on him after the show was under way.
Their goal was to show that there isn’t that big a difference between gay and straight.
And, if the guy chooses one of the straight guys, then the straight guy wins the money. That would explain the motivation for a straight guy to play the game… money.
Some of this sounds strange to me so I’m not going to comment on what I think about it until I see the show and/or know more about it. I just wanted to share what I heard this morning since it addresses a couple of the questions you’ve asked here.

Oh I get it, because lesbians on TV are HOT!!! Straight guys dig watching the lesbians on TV because lesbians on TV are so HOT!!!
I for one have gleaned from the roughly 750,000 posts to this message boards in which straight men have extolled the virtues of girl-on-girl action that straight men enjoy the watching of the lesbian sex. I would consider it a personal favor if every straight man on this board would understand that pretty much everybody understands you groove on the g-o-g and so there is no need to post a reminder in pretty much every thread that has anything to do with homosexuality, regardless of how distant from the actual thread topic such a reference actually is.

I think they ought to have a show where some woman falls for a man who turns out to be a criminal awaiting execution on death row. Wouldn’t that be a bitch?

Consider the request returned.
Incidentally, it’s _not_ “distant from the actual thread topic” as your first post implied (I guess the shrieking got in the way). If such a program featured lesbian daters, it _would_ attract attention from straight males.
Is that degrading to lesbians? Too fucking bad.

It’s to get straight people to watch (they’ve even said that, it’s no secret). Why would straight men watch a gay-dating show played “straight” (I don’t know if women would want to watch)? No incentive whatsoever. That’s why they need an audience-increasing straight-involved twist.
Anyway, they do have regular-old gay dating shows over in England on Channel 4.
