Gay is becoming hip and mainstream and albeit annoying to see it become a part of the mind numbing “reality tv” set, at least the closet door is finally creaking open.
The whole “choosing a guy who might or might not be gay” thing was already done to death by Liza Minnelli and her mother. What can this show add? Are they also going to find out that the guy doing the choosing isn’t really a millionaire?
I saw the show last night and thought all the guys looked and acted like West Hollywood clones from Rage…in other words, boring, squeaky-clean, superficial, status/money hungry, mindless dolts. In other words, no different than the usual ho’s found on these types of reality TV shows.
The only man of color was so light, he could have passed for an Italian with a tan.
The only semblance of masculinity came from artificially pumped up gym bunny pecs and arms. You would think they could have found at least one dude who could pass for an auto mechanic or construction worker.
From my perspective as a Gay man, this show might as well be girl on girl.
I don’t normally use smileys but :D.
I missed that. What did Liza Minelli and her mother do?
Are you suggesting that the men Liza has been with are gay?
I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt here and assume that you do not mean this the way it sounds – that you do not sincerely believe that it is okay to degrade lesbians as a group and that it’s just “too bad” for any lesbians who don’t like it.
I am not sure what you actually did mean by the above, but I prefer to think that it was nothing so horrible or offensive. With that in mind, I would like to suggest that in the future you take a little more care with your phrasing.
There are ways to degrade lesbians (or any other group), but this TV show (assume a female version of it was produced) wouldn’t be one of them, and any lesbian who complained that it was “degrading” is using a ridiculously expansive definition of the term.
That’s getting ahead of myself, though. Suffice it to say that if a lesbian dating show was produced, and if all participants were there voluntarily and if the show was carried by a perfectly willing cable channel, then I (a straight guy) might watch it for my own amusement, and if a lesbian objected to the show or my enjoyment of it, that was too fucking bad.
As for taking more care with my phrasing, I’ll concentrate first on trying to perfect my typing.
You’re really stereotyping all straight men here, and selling them short. Why would gay men watch a straight dating show?
Wallon:
'Cause there are guys on it. Duhr!
