Why does being idealistic mean you have to be ineffectual? It’s not a question of following the arguments where they lead, it’s realizing that you can’t always get what you want.

Ten years ago, when I first started getting really interested in gay rights, the odds of same sex marriage being legalized seemed impossibly slim. That didn’t do anything to stop me from trying to do something about it, and look at where we are now.
