# Gee, Dexter, do you get pissy over ALL harmless jokes, or just mine?

In [this thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=297535), you accuse me of pissing in the pool and being a jerk, and you advise everyone to ignore my post.
Guess what, man? I don’t think anyone in the thread needed your help to ignore me! Everything would have been fine if you could have just left the fuck alone. The people who are participating in the thread would have been more than capable of skipping over my silly little remark and continuing the story.
But God forbid you could hold yourself back from riding in on your high horse to deliver a proclamation. It sure is a lot harder to ignore my post now that you’ve made such a big deal out of it, huh?

Just my 2 cents, but you certainly did piss in the pool and you were a jerk. You’re like Tom Gerber, a kid I went to gradeschool with. We’d be playing a good game of kickball, and Tom Gerber would come over, grab the ball, and kick it as far as he could down the embankment. He’d then shout, “What? It’s KICK ball?”
But you do have a point. Were I **Dex** , I would have just deleted your post. But I appreciate you’re willingness to draw such attention to your shortcomings.

But, leaving that aside, your analogy is not very good. Tom Gerber’s actions prevented your and your friends from playing kickball. My actions didn’t prevent anybody from doing anything whatsoever.

Eh. I’m usually one all for popping into threads with the jokey replies, but it’s a little different with something like that sort of “story” thread. People get into the spirit of things, there’s a narrative flow, continuity, then somebody douses them with a bucket of icewater? Gauche.
It’s like peeing in the pool your friends are playing Marco Polo in - it doesn’t stop them, it probably won’t hurt them, but it’ll leave a bad taste in their mouths.

(b) **Hamlet** , unlike you, used apostrophes in the correct places, although I personally wouldn’t contract ‘would’.

I should say that I laughed. I thought it was funny.
Still, this is a different kind of thread. There was a narrative flow going on and your post sidetracked it. I think Dexters reaction was a bit strong simply to deter people from posting jokes like yours in future thread of that style.
The threads like that are theere to tell a story. If one doper got away with posting that, the next thread would likely be flooded with “jokey” responses. Best to nip it in the bud.

Two problems with you harmless joke **Snoooopy**
1 - It wasn’t funny.
2 - It wasn’t harmless.
Not funny because, well, it just wasn’t. Unoriginal, pointless, trite, banal. OK, maybe funny in an irritating 7 year-old’s idea of funny.
Not harmless because if every humour-disabled wit followed your example the thread would be impossible to follow and turn into a wreck.
What **is** funny is instead of slinking away having been told off, you **still** think it was funny and are drawing attention to it.
