Military Madness uses a hex grid with unit tiles, essentially. If you think it’s too stripped down compared to Advanced Squad Leader, and maybe it is, perhaps you’d prefer [Panzer General](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panzer_General) or [The Operational Art of War](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Operational_Art_of_War). These games are at least related to wargames, if nothing else.
