Sweetie held me in his arms last night, and romanced me with a jot of long-memorized Vogon poetry. “Oh freddled gruntbuggly, thy micturations are to me/As plurdled gabbleblotchits on a lurgid bee.” I said, “You’ve been waiting years to use that one, haven’t you?” I countered with a snippet of Data doggerel: “Felis cattus is your taxonimic nomenclature/An endothermic quadruped, carnivorous by nature.” We proceeded to have a lovely evening. Ain’t love grand? ---

Pshaw. I submit that Tolkien has unfortunately lost his status as an absolute indicator of geekitude. There are too many 15-year-old girls sighing over Aragorn and Arwen for Elvish to be remotely obscure anymore. Sweetie knows how to code in machine language, assembled his own digital recording studio in his spare time and decided he needed to build a hurdy-gurdy from scratch for a medieval party we attended last year. I amazed and amused people at the same party with my 1337 Monty-Python-and-the-Holy-Grail-quoting skillz. Together, we taught ourselves medieval flute music and pranced behind a friend who was dressed as a knight, playing his minstrels. Unasked. He was appreciative, fortunately. No, we’re geeks all right. ---

Ya know, every time I’ve seen this thread title I’ve misread it as “greek love”. I thought it was about something totally different. I’d say that showing off my poetry is geekish, except that every poseur in the country does the same. Maybe being able to recite the Jabberwocky on a dime? ---
