It’s “enterprise” fer’chrissakes, it’s using a song from the “Jingle all the Way” soundtrack as it’s theme song! it deserves to die!

Oh, puh-leese.

The economic cost of smoking alone is estimated at something like $100 billion/year.

Meanwhile, Nasa scrapes by on a measly $16 billion/year, and you’re upset because some private individuals want to spend $3 million to keep their favorite TV show going?

We, Americans, spend something like $5 billion/year on bottled drinking water, $4 billion/year on potato chips, and $50 billion/year on diet products.

The annual budget for the ALA is in the untold, but at least 100’s & 100’s of millions of dollars/year.

A measly $3 million wouldn’t be a drop in their annual bucket. The world would most certainly not be a better place.

Damn skippy. I wanna be Captain Kirk and tag a green chick, not watch TV.

Captain Kirk never tagged a green chick, Pike did and that was just in his imagination.

Just for the record, I’d like to say I don’t have anything against people donating money to support the arts, even “popular” ones.

I just, personally, can’t really sympathize with donating money to save a _mediocre_ show. I’m not saying it’d have to be the best show ever made to qualify, but it’d have to be a bit better than _Enterprise_ is.

And of course, this is all just my opinion, you’re entitled to yours, I wouldn’t try and stop ya or anything, etc. etc.

You’re telling me that Eddie Murphy _lied_ to me? I wondered how long it’d take for someone to pick that nit.

>
> First of all, you do not know that they haven’t donated to charity. Secondly, it’s their money and they’re free to do with it as they please. They are not under any obligation to donate more to charity simply because of their higher income.

If the plan doesn’t work out, the donors will get a refund or the money will go to charity.
Extra monies raised in the past for ad campaigns always went to charity.

Just the facts.
So I bought a pair of pants at the mall yesterday. And I just paid for vacation reservations and train tickets too! Oops, was I supposed to give all that dough to charity instead? Oh, wait a minute…I donate throughout the year, every year. My dough, my choice.

Well their plan is working out, thus the money, so far as I can tell, did not go to charity.

Just the facts.

It still could, because the whole thing is in progress. I think they are attempting to become sponsors of the show. But if TPTB won’t agree, that’s it, I guess.

Oh, I thought you were talking about something else entirely. Since you quoted me, I thought you were referring to the money put towards an SDMB account, and if that account were banned, then the money would go to charity. That’s what threw me off. Even though I was pretty sure that wasn’t the case (the DSMB donating to charity, that is) I figured I’d skip the “cite?” and just go forth with my reply.

Anyways, I withdraw my snarky “just the facts” since I was simply confused about what you were responding to.

Sorry, **Duder**. I tend to think that everything I say must be clear to everyone and that they can automatically read my brain waves. 😃
Seriously, I should have specified to whom I was responding.

Okay, it’s settled.

Kirk _nearly_ voted green, but it turned out her weapon was bigger than his.

And as for the people who say charity would be a better place for the three mill, I can only say one thing: _perspective!_

I assure you the world would be a better place tomorrow if I had that $3 million.

The whole thing is irrelevant, but I don’t buy the “$3 million is too little to help” argument because most donations to all of these charities are likely less than $3 million, and cumulatively they still help.

**Warning: Brief lesson in simple economics ahead.**

These arguments (“They shouldn’t give their money to save the TV show,” “Cameron Diaz didn’t deserve the $42 trillion she made last year,” “The money would be better spent on charity”) are invariably presented with the attitude that the money somehow evaporates when it’s used for a frivolous purpose. This is patently ridiculous; sure, these folks are going to spend their money on the show, but it’s going to pay _people_; writers and camera operators and carpenters and so on. And those folks will in turn spend it on other stuff, and it will continue to circulate. This is called “an economy.”

Remember: It’s always a good thing when people (_other than you_) spend money. Encourage it. Even if the $3 million is not spent on charity, it still circulates; it pays salaries that keep people from needing charity.

I assure you if _I_ had the 3 million dollars the world would be a better place…for me.

(Well, me and a bunch of animals. I vowed long ago that if I won the lottery, I’d open an animal refuge. I’d prefer big cats for it, but honestly, I’d probably just end up with a huge menagerie of all kinds of abandoned/unwanted animals. Humans I can say no to, no problem, animals I have a huge soft spot for.)

Yeah and a lecturn isn’t a podium either, but at least in the United States, everyone calls it that anyway, and BEFORE last Christmas, a big wave that knocks out cities and kills people was commonly known as a tidal wave, regardless of the science behind it. I’m not a big fan of ignorance, but this massive educating of people, and their willingness to accept the scientific term all a sudden, just pisses me off
😃

oh yeah, and there’s no such thing as a Brontosaurus either!
