Talking about “the rules” is useless. What rules are finicky and arcane, and how? This is literally the forum to discuss that sort of thing. The powers that be actually listen to feedback and make adjustments when warranted. In fact, they just got through re-doing the rules and asked for feedback, see [here](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/reorganized-sdmb-rules/968857).
