About six months ago, I e-mailed Gene Ray telling him that he was totally wrong about the Time Cube and that the secret number behind everything was 23, not four. He didn’t respond, so I sent him another e-mail calling him a “cubeless jackass” and a “one-corner fool,” etc. He wrote back: “You and your math are both stupid, but I love you anyway.” I’m not sure if I feel insulted or complimented by that. ---

I personally think it’s kind of cool – full of phrases that, when out of context, sound like the riddles of an ancient martial arts master. “You think self, you are evil. Word does not even exist.” “Where did your mind go - as you are educated evil?” “RPI incurrs a Cubic curse, evil for ignoring Time Cube” “Students are really stupid, without Cubic life wisdom, and yellow belly cowards” “Word is evil empowerment, separating man from nature” “Man isn’t a steward of life’s nature” I wish I owned a fortune cookie company – this guy would make me rich. Actually, they almost sound like Nostradamus quatrains: “the bastard plunders it like killing future children, for they die without nature” "the educators, the students and others ignorant of Nature’s Harmonic Cubic Creation - acting as queer as 1-corner, corrupting family villages & plundering Earth’s Nature. " All in all, it’s pretty fun for a crazy website. It doesn’t get bogged down in too much detail and terminology (like the Illuminati-conspiracy-tin-foil-hat-bridage), and while it does contain a lot of nastiness, isn’t vile and cruel (like far-out fundamentalist doomsday preachers). It’s just a guy and his computer vs. the world. Freedom of speech – I love it. ---

Yeah, I think part of the appeal of Time Cube, to me at least, is that, while Gene is a kook, he’s an original one. So many Internet kooks can be described simply by category: conspiracy nuts discussing the Illuminati/mind control/JFK’s assassination/aliens/Waco/all of the above, fundamentalists, weird cults, et id genus omne. But Gene actually bothered to originated his own kooky theory. It’s delightful in that it isn’t borrowed from anything or anyone else, and thus he is the ONLY ONE who believes (or even understands) it. It’s Gene Ray against the world. Sure, it incorporates some other staples of generic kookdom, such as a sort of low-budget anti-Semitism and homophobia, but most of it is entirely original. And then there are all the Zenlike sayings. (Maybe like Zen on shrooms or something.) And his ridiculous egotism, his giant fonts, and his bothering to register 3 or 4 domain names just to link back to Time Cube make it even better. ---

I try to have an open mind. So I watched the first video on the MIT site (showing Gene Ray debating his Time Cube theory). I really tried to understand what his theory is. _GODDESS_ The man CANNOT make a coherent point. After some 20 mins of rambling, I shut it off. As best as I could tell, he seems to be saying that (given 4 people equally spaced along the equator of the planet) they will experience a different part of the day simultaneously, there are, therefore, 4 different days going on. _shrug_ Add to that the blatant anti-Semetism and (possibly) gay-bashing on his site, I think the man’s a loon. ---

davidm, that’s what I said a few days before the debate (except in a different tense). So one night, when my friend was over, we called up MIT and asked about it. Sure enough, he was going to debate at MIT. It was about that time that I decided that either 1)There was no God, or 2) The guy who arranges the debates at MIT has a sense of humor. I’m hoping the latter. But yeah, the site is funny, and I have spent many happy hours babbling in AIM Christian Chat about the ways of Nature’s Harmonic Time Cube. ---

It’s not quite like that-- It looks like it was an IAP event from what I remember at the time. IAP is “Independent Activities Period”, which is basically a month where one can take abbreviated versions of real classes, or do student-run activities like bagel tasting (or wine tasting, for that matter), or go to movie marathons… Or see goofy lectures. The person to contact and sponsor for the lecture, IIRC, was in a fraternity known for, shall we say, offbeat humor. My guess is that they ran across the site and decided to hold a “debate” with some similarly-minded friends from Harvard and Ray, and not let Ray in on the joke… ---

Fools. You do not comprehend Time Cube. You all fear Time Cube debate. You worship evil word god master, Cecil Adams. Gene Ray is greatest thinker and discoverer of Time Cube. Cecil Adams is destroyer of children and master of 1-corner evil. _snicker_ I’m having trouble believing that this guy’s for real. Could any human being be so delusional? I’m hoping he’s just a bored college student, or something, because my grandparents winter in St. Petersburg!
