Sorry, but that music is only in your head.
Well, if you want to get technical, so are the tribesmen, the earth and the new planet. I guess you haven’t seen the recent thread on solipsism, where it was generally agreed that EVERYTHING is in my head.
Yeah, but is the disembarkation point on New Earth more like the cold abandons of Antarctica, the punishing deserts of Saudi Arabia, the tropical rain forests of the Amazon, or the temperate climes of, say, Kansas? If we don’t know these things it really doesn’t matter who we choose, in which case a completely random selection would be best. After all, if we land in New Antarctica with no Innuit we’re all dead anyway. Oh well. At least our carcases won’t smell.
OK- in the abscence of further direction from Czarcasm, I’m going to go with standard Star Trek conventions - That is, random worlds in the galaxy are temperate in climate, with what we would regard as nomal looking plants and animals, and the occasional horny humanoid alien in a sarong.
I’m not going to plan around the horndog aliens of Czarworld, other than to bring weapons.
I’m not so sure that I’d count on Innuit, Eskimo, Lapps, nor any of the other primitive northern tribes to be able to handle Antarctic conditions. Better able than, say, most Western city dwellers, but the conditions are different enough that I wouldn’t want to bet the house on it.
I’m just looking for a fighting chance, man. Innuit in New Antarctica give me that…just as Bushmen in New Kalahari, or Bedouin in New Egypt do.
Well, I’m going to try my best to be one of the survivors, and I’m most fluent in English. Survival on the new planet would be challenging enough without political and religious strife, so I would try to grab a population that was relatively homogeneous, politically and religiously. Plenty of time to split into factions, once we get some crops harvested.
I think I might try to grab a small town that had an Amish community, and an A&M college. I would want people knowledgeable enough about biology to identify edible plants and animals on the new planet, and people knowledgeable about farming to cultivate the plants and domesticate the animals. And if they are Amish, then they won’t kill me for not joining their religion.
I can see the arguement in favour of using an ethnically homogenous group. My fear would be loss of genetic diversity. Genetic diseases suck. That’s why I’m setting up my portal in Hawai’i, with Vancouver as my second choice. If you know a more genetically diverse spot let me know.
Let me know soon, 'cause I’ve only got 5 days. Need answer fast.
How many teleport devices are there? I’m going to assume that I have more than one, because it’s going to be pretty hard to get 20,000 people through one doorway in five days. And having a limit oftwo, or six, or thirty-seven just seems rather arbitrary, so I’ll assume I can get my hands on as many teleports as I might think I need. So my strategy is this…
I paint all of the doors red, slap a Welcome mat down in front of each one, send them off to random corners of the earth (complete with swirling mist), and take the first 19,999 people who through…plus me, of course…
