Oh, and also, this might be useful for you. If you actually bother to add up the total forced migration numbers from the table in wiki the total number moved during WW2 comes to 2.351 million. How exactly did 5 million of these 2.351 million die?
That wasn’t his main distinction or Hitler would merely be remembered as a German Napoleon to-day, rather Hitler also planned a systemized and total annihilation of an ethnic group for the sole reason of their ancestry (with some exceptions such as the Karaites and a few “honourary Aryans”). This was fairly unique in Western history and would have been something would have horrified European rulers who lived centuries before such as Napoleon himself or Hitler’s hero Frederick the Great.
I think Hitler would wipe the floor with the Khan
1)Hitler was a 6’ 20th century human…probably much bigger than Genghis
2)Hitler was trained as a soldier and served heroically in combat situations
3)Hitler came from a violent famiily and could likely fight
4)All that rape would have Ghengis pretty worn out and mellow…Hitler on the other hand was ready to explode
It’s an educated guess of course. It can’t be proven beyond doubt but you can’t call it ludicrous.
The casualty from Mongol raids and various pogroms in northern China from 1206 to 1226 is deduced through simple arithmetic. Census counts and surveys before 1206 put the population of that part of the country at 50 million. The next survey 2 decades later put the population at less than 15 million.
The last Jin census of 1207 showed 7.68 million households, the first Mongol census of 1235-1236 shows 1.83 million households. However the accuracy of that Mongol census has been much debated - demographers seem to have generally accepted that it was a major undercount. As noted Chinese census taking was all over the map in terms of accuracy. The Ming censuses from ~1400’s on in particular are generally considered rather worthless.
So the decline was real and devastating, but it is hard to pin a number on it, other than “millions.” Of course whether it was 10 million or 50 million is almost beside the point, which was that the Mongol invasion was a tremendous catastrophe for China.
Khan and Hitler both take a backseat to the truly most evil man in history.
That appears to be over a period of 162 years so it seems like it would be hard tom compare with other wars. In particular I’m not sure how you would define % of world population killed when it occurs over multiple generations.
