Sadly, it’s true.

[Sheb Wooley died yesterday at age 82.](http://www.cnn.com/2003/SHOWBIZ/Music/09/17/obit.wooley.ap/index.html)

Sheb was a distant cousin of mine. I never met him but it was always cool to know he was out there somewhere.

So raise a glass tonight to a man who carved his own career and recorded one of the best novelty records of the 20th century.

**The Purple People Eater** will always live in my heart.

I knew he looked familiar and it’s from Rawhide. His list of credits continued to be darn impressive. Plus, anyone named “Sheb” has got to have their shit wired tight.
