No doubt he had an eye for fashion and sex appeal. But I like his rarely rivaled pop vocals and ear for melodies. I linked this song in a different thread a couple weeks ago and I didn’t think I’d be linking it in an RIP thread.

I loved “Kissing a Fool” off of the “Faith” album. Always sounded like a throwback to an older generation, and this death hurts.
Wham! was huge in my pre-teen years, and his solo stuff could be amazing. I lost my virginity to “Father Figure.”

I was assembling the obituaries page for the small newspaper that I work for today, and I was complaining to everybody that I didn’t exactly have a lot of high-profile options to fill up the space. I settled for a stewardess who once survived falling 33,000 feet and an Ethiopian runner. I was just about to ship the page off when my supervisor told me the news.

Damn, Vesna Vulovic too? She survived a six mile fall, but even SHE couldn’t survive 2016?

I took a screen cap I wish I could post of CNN dot com this evening that I wish I could post. Under his picture and death announcement it read
“Sun goes down on beloved pop star.”
At least it sounds like his afterlife is off to a good start.

I blame myself. I always thought “Careless Whisper” was a great song, but a few months ago I stumbled across a quote from him saying he considered it a throwaway, and was disappointed that people thought it was good. So I thought, “Fuck you, George.”

Well, he was clearly wrong there. It goes to show that artists aren’t always the best judges of their own work.
**Wham** is another piece of my childhood that’s gone, one of the first fashionable bands that I was aware of, although my brother liked them more than I did. For my part, I was really into **Duran Duran**.
I wasn’t a fan of his works around the time he went solo in the late 80s but I’ll keep _Kissing a Fool_ and _Praying for Time_, in addition to the one above. Even then, I really liked these songs.

(My Greek husband said if George Michael had totally let himself go, he would look like one of his truck driving uncles.) My favorite song was ‘Everything She Wants’. I listen to it while driving, when in a vaguely melancholy mood, it takes me back to a better time. (for me.) RIP, Georgio.

I didn’t really like most of Michael’s songs with the exception of “Father Figure”. I don’t think most artists who has the image George Michael had in 1987 would release a song where they convincing adopted the persona of an obsessive pedophiliac stalker of a young girl and for that, I’ve always given him credit. Along with “Every Breath You Take”, “Father Figure” is probably one the creepiest songs to hit #1 and like “Every Breath”, I think a lot of people miss the point of the song entirely.

George Michael had stage presence. Even in the WHAM videos, you noticed him
He did a lot of philanthropical work too. Often anonymously.
