Sounded to me like he pronounced pro tempore correctly. From Webster’s:
Main Entry: pro tem·po·re Pronunciation: prO-'tem-p&-rE
Function: adverb
Etymology: Middle English, from Latin
Date: 15th century
: for the time being
I was also taught to pronounce it “pro tem,” by my seventh grade history teacher. Damn you, Ms…Ms…uhh…what the hell was her name again?
I think this is a result of making the effort to enunciate it rather than pronouncing it the way he normally would with his accent (coming from Georgia, I tend to say “tairrr” unless I’m being careful).
On to more important matters. I loved how black and white, and how unyielding his speech was. That’s what we need at a this time. I’m glad he noted who our enemies are, and who they are not.
I’m also curious about exactly what actions we will take. But I realize that we can’t make predictions, and that at this time, many things cannot be shared.
Sorry to “me too,” but I also liked the direct, strong stance. I was yelling at the screen in frustration–“Shut up!! Sit down and let the man speak!”
The very open declaration that Muslims are not our enemies was certainly timely. Here in Arizona, some murderous cretin killed a Sikh gas station owner, for the crime of wearing a turban. Way to put us on the map, asshole.
You know, I think W. learned public speaking during that speech. Compare the beginning to the end.
Looking forward to Muslim Guy’s take on tonight’s broadcast.
Slightly off topic, Jay Leno’s wife has been an activist for women’s rights under the Taliban for years now. Has anybody heard from her lately? Did W. suggest tonight–I thought I heard it–that he was planning to liberate Afghanistan from the Taliban? Would the Muslim world support that?
Hey, I wasn’t trying to dis him about the way he talks! I merely pointed it out as an observation. Heck, I’ve got no room to complain about how other people talk - coming from me, it probably would have sounded like “tewaw”.

As I said, I agree with the sentiment, and that it needed to be said. I guess I just wasn’t expecting him to be so blatant. I’m just hoping that some of the more radical governments out there don’t take this as an invitation to WWIII.
I thought his speech was fine, though I was expecting more anger. And for the life of me I wish, just once, we’d hear a President speak from the gut. Something like, (looking into the cameras with a look of ice-cold contempt): “You mess with us, you DIE, you little fuckers.”
If somebody told me 11 days ago that I would be agreeing with George W. Bush on anything, I would have said they were out of their tiny minds.
If someone had told me I would actually start to have a certain amount of grudging respect for the man, I would have called for the men in white coats.
