He was _preparing_ to lead legions against the Dacians and Parthians when he was assassinated. More to the point, the armies he led during the Civil War, when he was called dictator and other various honorifics, were fighitng exclusively to establish his power and destroy Roman political rivals – none of these particular wars, _after he had come to power_, were to protect Rome or increase its territory. In fact, it was specifically his success in these civil wars that enabled Cqaesar to become _Dictator Perpetuus_ – leading directly to the destruction of the Republic – not a comparison, I submit, that Bush fans want the public to think about. So I think it’s a pretty ineffective claim to make, overall. Sailboat ---
