The Martin family lawyer Crump initially described the person Trayvon was speaking with as his girlfriend who was 16. Rachel Jeantel suddenly became his “friend” and was 18 at the time. So many people refer to Jeantel as Trayvon’s girlfriend because that is how she was initially described by Crump not just because they presumed their relationship.
