Clinton herself has played the “vote for me 'cause I’m a woman” card several times. I wish her kitchen sink strategy would pull her down the drain.
Before she deigned to Hillary Clinton, Geraldine was once upon a time actually quite lovely.
Haven’t you been reading Shayna’s threads lately? If she could think of something else to rip Hillary Clinton apart over, she’d have already posted it. And then complained about how terrible negative politicking is.
The biggest negative I can see about Obama at this point is his followers. I’m distrustful of anyone who can attract this kind of blind irrational devotion and worried that if I vote for the man, I’ll be empowering the cult.
Now that’s playing the race card. If you voted for Clinton, you must be a racist. What I’m starting to hear from Obama supporters doesn’t remotely resemble the fine character of their hopeful leader. This race, at least around here is getting real fucking ugly.
Is that so ? Its good to hear that at least 70% of blacks are no longer considered disadvantaged. We can now turn our attention to white trash, Asians and Latinos and educate them against racism.
Unless you know why people are voting the way they are, the whole argument is speculative. Lots of blacks voted for Obama. You can move from that to “Obama’s lucky he’s black” if and only if you know their motivation and know they wouldn’t have voted for him if he wasn’t black. You’re just assuming.
Those who didn’t vote for him because he’s black (and by your reasoning, you’re obliged to accept that some people vote racially) might have voted for him if he were white. Oops, unlucky for him he’s black.
Furthermore, Clinton also has characteristics, and no doubt some of those characteristics (a) motivate people to vote for her and (b) she was born with. So I guess she’s just lucky too.
I find it funny how some people can turn any comment regarding race into a racist comment.
When, if you get down out of fantasy land and listened in on any American minority’s daily conversations, race and comments about race (such as the one quoted) are constantly a part of the dialog.
I find the most egregious offenders of this oversensitivity to be… white people.
But gosh, it’d be racist to say that, right?
If nothing else, I’d expect better grammar from someone of Ferraro’s education.
Besides her being one of Clinton’s supporters, other candidates have distanced themselves from unfortunate comments/supporters when the situation has arisen. Obama did this when Louis Farrakhan said he endorsed Obama; McCain did this recently when some media guy spoke for McCain but made a big point of saying “Barack Hussein Obama” repeatedly and making other derogatory comments.
I’m not going to give her too much grief. Stupid comment, yes, but there hasn’t been a serious woman candidate ever. Or a black one. I can see both fired up, as it’s entirely ridiculous.
As a white male I find it retarded that we’ve gone 43 in a row… and #43, oy. I mean blacks and women have been fucked to high hell for what 30 generations now? I will not criticize one or the other for getting worked up. One of the two has to lose, and it will suck for them. I’ve become kind of soft and understanding of issues lately, and not so gung-ho fuck the opposition. I’ll give her a break on this one.
And saying that Obama is only getting support from the African American community based on the fact that he’s Black isn’t? Did you stop to think that even if that were true (and I’m sure it is in some cases) that there are women who are voting for Hillary because she’s a woman and Whites who are voting for McCain because he’s White? I’m not saying that you burn crosses or anything, but your first post in this thread showed an incredible insensitivity to race. And how politics work for that matter.
Fuckin’ A. If you’re going to say stupid shit at least use the proper mood.
Clinton has rabid supporters, Obama has rabid supporters. Bush had rabid supporters, Reagan had rabid supporters.
I’m a 30-something educated white man who voted for and is campaigning for Barack Obama. If I fit the bill Flying Dutchman eluded to, I must have been suckered into the Obama cult because of his beautiful speeches. Which anyone with half a brain would know is a load of shit. I simply don’t make uninformed decisions when voting for my future president. I didn’t like Hillary when she declared her candidacy, and I don’t like her now. To me, she keeps making daft decisions about her campaign, and it clearly shows. She’s behind in the popular vote, she’s behind in delegates, and she LOST more states than Obama has, in fact, Obama has WON twice as many states as she has.
According to Flying Dutchman more than half the people voting in this democratic election are jadded in some way…Oh yeah, it’s because the blacks are coming out of the woodwork for Obama.
Let me be perfectly crystal clear. Should Clinton do the impossible and cinch the nomination [which now it would take an act of OG or back room dealings to accomplish] she will screw herself our of the presidency and we will have a republican again. And all the Clinton supporters will be wondering…why, or why didn’t I take the blue pill.
Additionally, adding to the disdain of Clintonites, I believe more people voting for Clinton will come out to vote for Obama when he cinches the nom, than Obamicans would turn out to vote for Hillary if she does the impossible and cinches the nod.
Luckily, Obama has the momentum, and we won’t need to tread down that path. She’s not going to win this nomination. And she’s not going to be asked to be a vice president. She’s going to have to go back into the senate and do whatever it was she was doing there before this election…Sorry, can’t find much on what she did to cite it.
Notice who you’re talking to?
Simple your analysis may be, but fact it is not. This projection relies on two assumptions:
(1) That if Barack Obama were exactly the same man, but were white, the black people who are currently voting for him would be voting for Hilary Clinton;
and
(2) That no one currently voting for Hilary would vote for Barack Obama if he were white.
So… you feel comfortable imputing race-based motives to the folks voting for Obama, but not to the folks voting against him? On what basis?
Recently a high level person in Obama’s campaign made a nasty comment about Senator Clinton and was forced to resign.
If Ferarro is forced out of her orginazation, then I can respect her. If not, she approves of this message.
It is a classic political tactic. I’ll be all nice and let other people go out and sling the mud. Obama doesn’t do this. No one in his employ attacks Senator Clinton. That is because he is a better person then Senator Clinton.
This is actually the thing that’s really depressing me this campaign season. So many people whom I once admired are apparently doing their level best to completely demolish my former admiration. Ferarro, both Clintons, Rendell (well, not actually admired, on that last one, so much as ‘settled for’)…running for the bottom as fast as they possibly can.
Not going to happen. If she hasn’t ousted Howard “Ken Starr” Wolfson, she’s not going to oust Ferarro.
Broad brush? I never said that. As you say later, it is true in some cases. I’d say the evidence shows that 20% of black voters deviated from the general voting trend of democrats resulting in an Obama lead that would otherwise be an even greater lead for Clinton. And it’s no secret that blacks have yearned for a politically viable black presidential candidate for years.
So. What does that have to do with the charge that Ferarro is a racist ?
The same is obviously true of women, and if Obama was running against a white man maybe he would be getting stronger support from women. And there are far more women out there than black people. So what’s your point?
Sigh. I’m merely backing Ferarro. What Ferraro says is true. Obama wouldn’t lead Clinton if he weren’t black. And as you maybe suggest, If Clinton weren’t a man, I’d expect Obama would have got the nomination back in early February.
Make that " if Clinton were a man"
