If anyone in the advertising industry actually uses the ‘Aha, maybe it is crap and insults your customers and makes your product look like tepid shite, but you _remember_ it, so it’s good, you see?’, I’m pretty sure all that’s happening is that they’re attempting to cover their ass for simply doing the job badly. ---

I have only heard part of a commercial once on the radio. The part I remember was towards the end where some guy states “Burger King is the home of the Whopper. What are you going to call it now? Home of what ever else we have.” Or something like that and I laughed. I did not hear the part where the lack of the Whopper makes the King now a Queen but if I had I don’t think it was a homosexual comment. Sexist, maybe, but not a gay bashing. And while we are talking about offending words can ‘tina’ be removed from the Urban dictionary as the slang for crack. I am offended\*. Not really. My name was around before the Urban dictionary as I am sure homosexuals were around before anyone referred to them as a “Queen”. I wonder what was the first “gay” person called. ---

My take on the Burger Queen is that the dimbulb was going for an opposite, as in without the Whopper it would be the opposite of Burger King, which in his mind was Queen- like if it was called Burger Tall, he would have said Burger Short, etc. ---

It just really surprised me that a large corporation, using what I assume would be an elite ad agency, would air a commercial with something that could easily be taken as offensive. I dunno. Between this and “hit moms”, I am thinking about Burger King, which I can’t say I’ve done in years, but it’s not moving me to start eating there. Maybe if they started showing commercials that said “We will serve you a tasty meal, in a clean establishment, with your order taken by someone capable of comprehending what you say and getting your order right”… ---

I think the ad works if only for the fact that I’m seriously craving a Whopper right now. It’s not so much the ad that has brought this about, but this thread and others like it on the internets. So kudos to the OP. You should be on BK’s payroll. This is what I think: The ad itself wasn’t designed to make people salivate over Whoppers, and it wasn’t designed to show off the sophisticated clientel. It was designed to get people to talk about Whoppers and Burger King. There’s only so many times a person can hear those words before the animal brain whispers to your frontal lobe “hey, let’s get summa that”. And before you know it, you’re corralled in front of the BK cashier along with the other sheeples, and you’re shelling out your $5 dollars for a Whopper, fries, and Diet Coke, and while you walk to the table, you’ll remember that commercial you saw and smile a little bit, wondering if maybe you’re on camera this time and that big scary King will come walking out of the back towards you with his big scary head…and the advertising execs are planning their next winter vacation. The people who think this ad is not working…look inside your soul and tell me you’re _not_ craving a Whopper, not even a teensy bit. I dare you. ---

While asking my neighbour for advice about some “pretty” things for the woman on Christmas; I asked his opinion on the joke. He said that it wasn’t possible for the them to change their name- He was already the Burger Queen. 😃 The man _does_ grill a mean burger. ---

The commercial and this thread is not making me crave Burger King at all; in fact it is sort of putting me off my lunch. But I haven’t been in a BK for over ten years so I’m sure I’m not their target audience. I will say, tho, that a TV news piece about the evils of trans fats, featuring fries and chips and donuts in all their trans-fatty glory, did make me crave fried carbs, so I can see there’s something to the power of suggestion. ---

[/quote] I don’t remember the last time I’ve had a Whopper (it was probably sometime in the late 80’s), and I rarely crave any kind of fast food hamburgers. That’s what is making me think I’m under the influence of advertising right now. I’m jonsin’ for a Whopper, man. Or maybe I’m just PMS’ing. ---
