I think that Lost and Battlestar Galactica are the only current programs of any real quality. Doctor Who has merit, but it’s… different. Not everyone will like it. I bought the former two shows from itunes. I haven’t seen a network program at its scheduled time in a long, long while. Of course you could watch Charmed with the sound on or off, no matter. ---

Let’s see, what series do I make an effort to actually watch? “BSG,” “House,” “24,” “The 4400,” “Supernatural.” I was pleasantly surprised by “Supernatural,” at how good the writing is, and how entertaining it is. And they really nailed that down for me tonight, when they showed a guy with a beautiful, 70’s-style van with a Barbarian Queen riding a polar bear painted on the side, and they started playing “Stonehenge” from Spinal Tap when they showed the van. Older ones - “Buffy” and “Angel.” “Angel” especially. ---

Even though it’s obviously US-centric, the writing on The West Wing is superb, and there’s seven seasons worth to watch (season 7 is due out in a month or two). ---

If you like quirky kinda off the wall stuff- I would recommend Arrested Development. It is one of those kinda shows that you can watch each episode a few times over and try to get all the references as well the relationships of the guest stars to each other and to the regular cast. It is very funny. ---

You didn’t say what you like… If you like well-written original drama without gratuitious sex violence :eek: , then I strongly agree with the previous posters who recommended **The West Wing**. It has credible plots, character interaction and makes you think about the political realities. If you prefer to laugh at politicians (and who doesn’t! :rolleyes: ), see if the beautifully-observed comedy about UK politics **Yes, Minister** (and the follow-up **Yes, Prime Minister** ) is still available. If you like clever crime and law enforcement procedure drama, but without car chases and gun fights, then go for **Law and Order** , **CSI** (the **Vegas** version is better than **Miami** , which in turn is better than **NY** ) and **Murder One**. ---

I find **Alias** to be an excellent show, with good writing and good acting. I’m currently renting the DVD’s fron Netflix. ---
