True, 1973 was probably among the best years for Prog Rock. That year saw _The Six Wives of Henry VIII_ by Wakeman. Dark Side of the Moon by Floyd of course, Tales from the Topographic Ocean & better yet Yessongs was released by Yes . Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield, Genesis release Genesis live, ELP had Brain Salad Surgery. ---

Curiously, 1973 was also the only year in his first 18 years (starting 1969) of recording that Peter Hammill _didnā€™t_ release an album of some sort! (And heā€™s only missed 4 other years since!) ---

The closest to prog for me generally are Rush, Dream Theater, Coheed and Cambria, Porcupine Tree, Mars Volta and Steve Miller. The problem is that the term ā€œprogressive rockā€ is very vague and includes different bands for different people. In general, I think complex timing and having keys tends to put you close. ---
