Perhaps it’s HOW you’re doing it.

Let’s try some links here.

[The Straight Dope Home Page](http://www.straightdope.com), followed by [The Straight Dope Home Page](http://www.straightdope.com), along with [The Straight Dope Home Page](http://www.straightdope.com). This is what you mean, correct?

Here’s the coding – replace the curly brackets with straight ones.

{url=“[http://www.straightdope.com](http://www.straightdope.com)”}The Straight Dope Home Page{/url}

Hope that 'splains it all for you, and all best.

It was the quotes around the http:// thingy. I never had to use quotes before when citing a singe site. I suppose it is only when there are multiple sites to cite?

I enclose every url in quotes inside the url tag. It avoids the issue of having to use them with multiple links or not with only one. Kind of a suspenders and belt approach.

As I said in another thread, if you click on the link for the text “vB code is On” which is on every page (top of “post reply” page, bottom everywhere else), the documentation says:

> [@](#):
>
> You can now have true hyperlinks using the [\*\*\*\*url] code. Just use the following format:
>
> [\*\*\*\*url=**“[http://www.vbulletin.com](http://www.vbulletin.com)”**]vBulletin Home Page

There is no example similar to this without the quote marks. That says to me that they want us to use the quote marks all the time. If it works without them, that’s interesting but unintended and really a bug. Veteran posters will remember that UBB, the previous software used by the SDMB, didn’t use the quotes but wouldn’t process complicated URLs correctly.
