I’ve been skipping the placebos for years - it usually works out that I end up with periods quarterly because I don’t make it to the drugstore in time or whatever. Nature finds a way. I love it. I don’t love paying more, but I’ve gotten over it.
When I started I did have to try a few different pills to get one where I didn’t have breakthrough bleeding, however. I’m on Apri, which is generic for Desogen.
I am 30, soon to be 31, and I would take a big YES on skipping that pain in the … you know every month.
I started my periods when I was 9 or 10 so that is looking at approximately 250 menstrual cycles. They suck. I hate them. They interfere with my life. Wedding? check (even my own). Vacation or road trip? check. Hateful!
I currently have an IUD as my form of BC, but when that 5 years is up I am going to demand that my uterus be removed- a donation to science fiction
I’m a firm believer in DepoProvera. No periods for almost 4 years now, and no side effects. I have regular bone density tests, and don’t have any loss. I’m 48.
This is a slight hijack, but I just wanted to put in a plug (pardon the pun) for the good ol’ IUD.
I’ve reacted badly in the past to hormonal birth control methods, and I wanted something that would give me continuous protection. I considered getting my tubes tied (I don’t want more children), but my doctor suggested the Paragard IUD.
Jeez, I sound like a commercial!
Anyway, it lasts 10 years. Nothing to maintain or remember. I’ve had it for 5 months, and I’ve had no side effects so far except for heavier periods, which are resolving themselves over time.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t get rid of your periods…but no method is perfect, right?
Anyway, I just wanted to throw that in because the IUD is often overlooked as an option, and it is a great choice for some women.
Other than not being thrilled with the effects of hormonal birth control on my physique and libido, I’d LOVE to nix my period. My period took a long time to return after my son’s birth (nursing helped), and it was BLISS to not deal with it.
Of course, this would be more practical if spouse or I were sterilized. Otherwise I’d be apt to have the “oh my god could I be pregnant” freak-out every month. Good obsevation on the part of some other posters.
