# GFI outlet

I have small pond in my landscaping…The pump is powered by underground wiring from a GFI outlet under my deck.
The GFI keeps tripping. When I push the red reset button it comes on for 15 seconds or so, then it trips again.
There doesn’t appear to be any wetness issues.
Any thoughts for a cure?

Replace the outlet. Be sure to get a GFCI one that is marked Weather Resistant (WR). It is not a hard DIY job. Just make sure you turn off the breaker feeding it before you start.

The outlet may very well need replacing, but this article gives a list of troubleshooting steps that should be fairly easy for your average DIY’er to follow:

If the cable was not rated for direct burial, it’s very possible that it had gotten damp enough to cause enough current leakage to trip the GFI.

You have a pump with water running through it, a small crack in the housing would cause current leakage. Try an extension cord to a different GFCI outlet it you can to determine if it’s the pump or the circuit.
