I’m looking for ghost stories appropriate for kids 7, 9 and 10 years old. Nothing spine-chilling or grisly, but enough to keep them entertained and maybe a little spooked without nightmares.

A quick search at [Amazon.com](http://Amazon.com) got me [this link](http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0876031696/ref=pd_sbs_b_3/103-7500618-9747808?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=283155).

There is a series of ghost story collections for children, retold by Robert D. San Souci, starting with [_Short & Shivery: Thirty Chilling Tales_](http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0440418046/), followed by [_More Short & Shivery_](http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0440418577/).

The stories are short, sometimes just three pages long, so you can tell several of them to your young audience.

Would you like to borrow my fog machine? 🙂

My teacher would read to us from [these books](http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/006440465X/qid=1138822707/sr=2-1/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_1/002-0910060-8522458?s=books&v=glance&n=283155) if we had been good that day.

I loved them!

You can just expand or add more scary details to these tales.

Look at some of the vocabulary in the first paragraph alone: parlor, possessed, radical, perils, provoked, placidly, hark, amiably, desirous, surveying.
