Ghosts or Aliens

Okay, you’re not a skeptic (sceptic) as defined by the dictionary people.

Isn’t this a claim that you can detect life?{/QUOTE]

“Detect life” is inaccurate because “mind energy” occurs in ghosts as well, who are not alive. Let me draw your attention once again to my analogy of the recording. It’s similar to listening to a recording Madonna (for example) and listening to someone talking to you. I use my sense of hearing to hear both, but one of them (the Madonna recording) can’t talk back to me.

Well, as I said before, I can’t “demonstrate” it (or prove it or measure it either), so I guess I won’t be a millionaire by way of the Randi Foundation.

I believe in ghosts and aliens. But I don’t believe aliens have ever visited Earth, and if they have no non-Government official has ever seen them. But I do believe there are other forms of life, no matter how simple or complex, out there in the universe.

Yeah, about the “there must be aliens” thing.

One, yes, space is immeasurably vast. But we still have only one definite example of a planet where life arose, so we have no idea how rare it may be. It could well be so rare that it can only happen once in all the time and matter of the universe. I don’t think that’s the case, but we really don’t have any idea, so just asserting the vastness of the universe as evidence there must be aliens is a non-starter.

Two, even if intelligent life is common in the universe, it could well be that it takes, on average, a very long time to arise, and those of us on the third rock from Sol could be the first ones out of the gate. We may well be currently alone, simply because we’re first.

Fiver,

I didn’t say there was alien life elsewhere, just that it was extremely probable.
As you say, we’ve only have evidence of life on one planet.
But we’ve only visited a few planets!
So the concept is valid.
Incidentally, I agree that we could be the first lifeforms.

OK, I see what you mean.
But are ghosts everywhere?
What if you go somewhere where there are no ghosts. Then you could use your detection power to prove you can detect life -and the money is yours!

I hope you don’t mind me going on about this, but I want to understand what your power can do.

Well.

Life has apparently evolved independently at least twice on
this planet (maybe three if you believe the upper-atmosphere
microbes guys).

That makes me think there’s life out there somewhere - and
a good chance it used to be on Mars. I think during our
lifetimes we’ll learn life is much hardier than previously
thought.

Intelligent life? Then I yield to the Fermi paradox - so
I don’t think there’s anything too advanced out there, and
nobody visiting us.

Ghosts? Nah.
