Some relatives on my mom’s side of the family have decided to handle a recently deceased elderly cousin’s estate by hiring an auction company. Nothing too unusual about that; this lady was rich, had two houses, and had collected an impressive amount of _stuff_ in her 80-some years on the planet. This cousin’s husband died several years ago, and she hadn’t been able to part with many of his belongings either, meaning that there is truly an epic amount of _stuff_ to be removed. My mom has been in contact with this dead cousin’s closest friend, who has also reported that at least two Dumpster loads (the size you might find at a demolition site) have been trucked away from one house. 😕 Today, the second round of items went live on the auction company’s website, and caused quite a stir when it was found that one of the lots included five _Playboy_s, two _Penthouse_s, one _Club_, and one _High Society_. This is all I have been hearing about today. ---

My uncle was gifted a subscription to Playboy for his 75th birthday by his grandchildren. As a joke. Yes, it was pretty funny to see them sitting on his coffee table when we visited him. Yes, they had been opened and, yes, he did read them (for the articles, of course). No one would have been surprised to see them on the pile of debris when their house was cleared out. You should find out what issues they were and how much they go for (such as on eBay). That might silence them when there’s PROFIT! (versus being thrown in the trash). ---

I have a deal with this in person. Everyone in Tennessee has to get a new license plate this year. This has been a clusterfuck from day 1, at least here in Memphis. Hours long wait times at the offices and several weeks for them to come in the mail, if they do. Things were really bad over the summer leading to closures of the offices occasionally to catch up and, naturally, calling for the head of the county clerk in charge. But, if Nextdoor was to be believed, the situation seemed to have gotten better by the time I put in my online request the first of September, my expiration month. People were getting them in the mail in a week or two. I got my confirmation on Sept. 14 but no license plate has arrived. So now I’ve got to go to one of the offices to talk to them. Which, of course, is what I wanted to avoid by doing it online. The closest office has a big waiting room so I don’t want to go there and sit with a bunch of maskless people. Another office is in a strip mall several miles away. At that one, you wait outside, so I’d rather go there. But we are having an unusual cold spell this week so that sucks. If I don’t do it this week, I’ll have to wait until November since the last week of the month will be packed with people who waited until the last minute. I don’t have to worry about getting stopped by the cops. I’ve got proof I’ve paid and they know the situation. I’ve just got to buck up and go deal with the government. Bleech. ---

Truist Bank is pissing me off. They bought out/merged with BB&T and Suntrust, and are now utterly incompetent. Unfortunately when we refinanced the house, the local bank we dealt with instantly sold the loan to Suntrust, and the business loan we still are paying was with BB&T. I’m stuck with them. Two or so days ago I logged into the biz account with no issue. I have my logins auto-saved on my desktop so it’s basically a two-click process. Easy. This morning I need to check and see if a payment went through, and suddenly they don’t recognize the password. OK, I’ll change it. Nope, we don’t recognize your email, or your login, oh, and you’ve tried twice so now we’re locking you out and you’ll have to call. The last time I called for something the hold time was 45 minutes. Haaaaaaaate … 🤬 🤬 ---

After the fire, they hired a company to clean our floor. These huge fans have been running non stop in our hall for 2 and a half days now. Theres nothing left to blow away. They’re loud. Its annoying. ---

Amazingly, here in Ontario there has been a rare bit of enlightened governance – non-commercial vehicle license renewal fees and renewal stickers have been abolished altogether. They even sent refunds to those who had already prepaid their renewals. This is the same government that, a couple of years earlier, abolished mandatory emissions testing, on the basis that there was such a high percentage of new cars on the road equipped with modern emissions technology that emissions testing was outdated and no longer made any practical sense. ---

I had a bad dream last night, y’all! 😟 My husband and I were joining my mom, grandma, and daughter at a restaurant for grandma’s birthday. As soon as we got to the table, Husband said he’d be back in a minute. I asked where he was going, and he said (nastily), “Don’t worry about it”. While he was gone, a waiter came and asked us to move to a different table, which we did. I knew Husband would be pissy when he got back and saw we weren’t where he expected us to be, and sure enough, he was. Next, I had to go to the bathroom. I went into the restaurant’s bathroom, found a stall, used it…and when I looked up, realized the ceiling was open and a couple of young men on a balcony overhead were filming me. I mooned them and told them to enjoy whacking off about it later, but they thought it was all quite hilarious. When I came out of the stall, Mom and Daughter were there, and I realized that Husband had been left alone with Grandma (which was not going to be pleasant for either of them because she has Alzheimer’s). Then I woke up. Seems pretty straightforward…angst about recent mild disagreement with husband, physical need to wake up and go pee. I am kind of cast down about those young men laughing at me though. If you run across that film online, don’t watch it. ---

Our mortgage was through Suntrust previously (which was fine). Pain in the fucking ass I tell you. It took us months because nothing worked until we finally got through to the right person. But we kept being told to wait, it’ll work soon, they’re just going through a transition while their systems catch up. It’s all fine now but there were times when we were worried we wouldn’t be able to make a mortgage payment because they wouldn’t let us. At one point we were reading credit card numbers over the phone like the Stone Age. ---

The long, long saga of my T-shirt is finally over. And there’s a lesson there for all of us, though I’m not really sure what it is, except that the general theme is “incompetence”. I checked the USPS status again today and it still said departed the Chicago international terminal but with no further updates. I checked Canada Post, and they never heard of that tracking number (they are supposed to pick up USPS tracking numbers once it crosses the border). Today has been exactly two weeks since the last USPS tracking update. I thought I should check my mailbox anyway which I hadn’t looked into for probably close to two weeks. There was a big bunch of mail and, of course, the T-shirt package, which had probably been sitting there for at least week, maybe longer. USPS says it’s still “in transit” from Chicago, and Canada Post, which delivered it, has still never heard of it. ---

If neither you nor Canada Post have any info beyond their initial status, I would guess that USPS is the one that did not provide proper notification. ---

They both fucked up, IMO. Clearly USPS tracking doesn’t fucking work, and CP should have been able to scan it since they had the package in their physical possession. What an ordeal! I’ve ordered lots of stuff from the US (and from far-away places like Australia and New Zealand) and never had a screw-up like this. It all seemed to begin with DHL handing it off to USPS and then it went to hell from there. It’s only a silly T-shirt (albeit a somewhat expensive one) but once things started going wrong I got obsessively worked up about it as a matter of principle! 😬 ---

One reason I like on-demand. The Church of Sports can’t overrun that and cancel what I actually want to see. I do wish TV schedulers would buy a few clues that not everyone worships grown men/women getting vastly overpaid to play games and that there needs to be room in the schedule for non-sports.
