But that’s the thing: he can’t change the past. What more can he do other than apologize and make amends? Accepting the apology doesn’t mean “your actions were acceptable.” It means “we agree that you were wrong. Now never do this again.” ---

Now granted, the screaming was presumptively over the top. However, you are apparently the nearest horse owner and you apparently thought it was entirely possible that one of your horses had gotten out. Also, presumably the neighbor isn’t familiar enough with your horses to be able to accurately tell if a horse in his yard in the dark is one of yours. So accept the apology and drink the beer. I personally would probably invite him over to share one, but I overly value avoiding conflict and understand that many people wouldn’t go that far. ---

Look, if you can’t accept his apology, you can at least accept the fact that free beer should never be ignored. (Geez, I’ve been wronged by worse people than that, by people who’d never dream of an apology… or even buying me ONE beer.) ---

You escalated to name-calling. He was wrong to start out so rudely but he didn’t call you a motherfucker, did he? He apologized and reached out with an olive branch, even after you verbally abused him. IMO you’re just being petty and dickish by not accepting and understanding that he made a mistake. ---

People make weird assumptions about stray animals. Not long after we moved into the new place, someone knocked at our door early one morning, accompanied by a dog. By the time I got up and went downstairs he was gone. But it turned out that he had opened the gate to our backyard and put the dog in there, under the assumption that it was ours (it turned out to be a neighbor’s German shepherd mix). Shortly after we moved to our previous home in Ohio, two women showed up in a state of piss-off, to complain about a large white dog running around their yards. I explained that it wasn’t ours, but from the glares I got it was clear they didn’t believe me.
