I love being home when my mom comes back from the last class before Christmas or last day of school…the word “REGIFT!!” gets said a lot, along with tons of laughter while we plot who to give the ugly Santa Claus statuettes and apple-shaped things and the ugle snowmen…! The thing is, since my mom teaches grade 2 (and taught grade one for many years), you just KNOW that these kids took the 2$ they made helping out grandma and went down to the Dollar Store and bought something just for you!. Who ever said 6-8 year olds had good taste?
My mom did take a few of the teacher/apple ornaments that were nice and strung them up on a Christmas garland which she hangs in our house every year. It’s kind of cute.
I wonder what she did eventually do with the ugly snowball-Kirby-like-thing she got this year…?
And in my house, homemade things DO get eaten! None of us kids have allergies, and we LOVE cookies and brownies! One kid gave my mom a mixture of flour and whatever else goes into making pancakes, along with a small bottle of maple syrup and instructions to just add eggs. I think my brother ate them!
