When I was a teenager I was into Gilbert’s music as I’d grown up listening to it (my dad was a fan). I wrote to Gilbert and received a hand written response on posh paper with his own logo (some kind of whistling sun) at the top. Meant a lot to me at the time.
‘Marry me Uncle Ray’ is a lyric from Claire so I gues people knew that already. He suffered with agoraphobia for years which stopped him toyring, but thankfully that’s no longer an issue.

I love the way the lyrics tumble into each other and that he says ‘I bagsy being in goal’! The chord sequence is fantastic to play - as are many of his songs - Nothing Rhymed is amazing - but this is the one for me.
