If the media would have just collectively ignored him until he offered something resembling a policy statement or of actual relevance to the world at large, he would have gotten bored and probably quit, then triy to get back his job as a game show host where he could get public attention for being a clown. “Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children. Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views,” she wrote. What might have got lost, or what I might have missed in 200+ posts, is that, reading this cold, with no context, it also works with liberals as the “Jews”. I mean, haven’t the republicans demonized liberals? Don’t GOP politicians argue for the outright execution of Democrats? “The only good Democrat is a dead democrat”?\* You can really tell what an igorant nut case she is by this fact. If conservatives had any passing understanding of empathy, they wouldn’t say shit like this to gain “points”. \*which I counter by saying, “even dead, republicans will never be good.” ---

I want to emphasize the point you made… “Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.” – Eleanor Roosevelt The Cheeto-Faced Shit-Gibbon, et al, spend/t an inordinate amount of time talking about people (“Liberals,” “Leftists”). Conservative media does this, too – more than any of the other major center or left-of-center networks AFAICT (and I spread my listening and viewing time across a large number of outlets, across the political spectrum). They disparage the other side **constantly** – again: talking about the people and NOT the ideas. What we watched in the last four years – most excruciatingly and pointedly since the November election – was a doubling down on this rank and unmitigated ad hominem approach in a way that – AFAICT – may be simply unprecedented. The only time our nation ever really methodically dehumanized an enemy like the RW has/did/is/does is during wartime, in an effort to make the cost of killing the enemy just a little more palatable for the warfighters who have to do the killing. [sound familiar ? See 1/6/2021, dateline The Capitol] This is the apotheosis of demagoguery, and it profoundly fans the flames of hatred and division. It doesn’t enlighten. It doesn’t inform. It doesn’t persuade. It just pits neighbor against neighbor, and sends the most bat-shit crazy among us to the Capitol or onto RW media outlets. We really _should_ pit the demagogues and the demagoguery … and I mean mercilessly and on a national scale. ---

I’ve long maintained that, in the USA, the more activist elements of organized religion have long been on _offense,_ while the secular segments of society (say _that_ three times fast) have been unequivocally on defense. Trying to claw back lost ground is still defensive. I feel the same offense/defense dynamic is applicable to the MAGAts vs. The Rest of Civil Society. They, of course, would say the opposite, but – despite the fact that a pedophile rarely argues that he’s being denied “his right to molest children,” conservatives – particularly when mixed with organized religion – do whine, bitch, and moan when their perceived “rights” to be The Worst People In The Country are at risk of being abridged. It’s definitely crazy-making. ---

I think in analyzing the impact of this woman’s post, it’s also important to consider the image she posted with it. The picture is of a half - naked terrified Jewish woman running from a man with a baton (gestapo?). It’s pretty damn exploitative to use a photo of an actual victim to butress some dumb political point. It’s clearly intended to provoke. Comparable, maybe, to the pro lifers using grotesque images of dead fetuses. (Also, how the fuck has history been edited about the Holocaust? It’s not like some groundbreaking revelation that Germans were propagandized into hating Jews.) ---
