Ginny was 18 years old. She had all the same aches and pains as my 77 year old mother. Last Sunday, her front right leg started having problems. She could hardly use it, and was in a lot of pain. Combined with the bad hips, and her dementia getting worse all the time, my ex and I decided it was time to say goodbye. Her nose and stomach never gave out though; she was a beagle, after all. We had her for 16 years, since she was 2. She was everything you could ask for in a dog. This last picture is one of my all time favorites. It was taken about 4 years ago. What a beautiful dog. I’ve reached the age where bending over to ground level is a bit of a chore, but I’d have walked across a large field and leaned all the way over to scratch her. May your grief be mercifully brief but may Ginger live on in your hearts and minds forever and ever. I’m really sorry. ---

Beagles are a favorite of mine despite (or if I’m being honest because of) their stubbornness. Ginger is a gorgeous dog and you clearly gave her the best life she could have. My condolences on your loss, and I hope you find another wonderful four-legged pal to fill the emotional void of her passing, Stranger ---

We’ve always had dachshunds, but we did have one beagle. And, yes, their stubborness is both a challenge and a joy. I can still remember her (Rogie) jumping out of the car window at a stop sign when we were taking her to obedience class. She never learned to obey completely, but she was always a good companion. I just wanted to cry seeing that old hound dog face up top. Sad memories. When it’s time to go they know., and 18 years is a good run. Hugs. ---
