Inspired by [this](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?s=&postid=3302896#post3302896) thread. I’ve recently been trying to grow my hair out some. My brother already has the copyright on really long hair in my family. However, since I’m 24 and never had my hair very long before, I figured, why not? I’ve had several women tell me they like my hair where it is now (about 6-8 months without a haircut). But I’ve also been told that if it gets too long, they don’t like it. So what’s the deal, ladies? Long hair on guys - good or bad? -LA ---

Personally? I’m not a fan of long hair on guys. Just not my thing, and I couldn’t really tell you why - I’ve just never liked it. ---

long hair on guys i’m just going to be looking at (as on tv or the pavement across the road)? well, it depends on whether they can carry it off, no? some can. some c.a.n.n.o.t. of course, my own man better not let his hair grow out. no no no no. no! ---

Firstly, wow I inspired your thread _stunned amazement_ Secondly, yes I like long hair on guys… I never did til I got with my bf but now I do really like it. I would suggest you go for regular trims though - just to avoid split ends and to keep it looking healthy - my hair is at the middle of my back now, but have had regular trims all the way through - its the only way you can be assured that it as in good condition as it can. If the hair is clean, shiny and smells good and in good condition, then, for sure, long hair on guys is sexy. If you are somewhat balding though - that is something you may want to rethink - I am assuming you’re not though. My vote… long hair on guys good 😃 ---

I’ve never been attracted to long hair on guys… I have two friends who would swear that the only guys they like are long haired though… We’ve never managed to see the other’s side on this issue… I _love_ when my hubby just has his hair cut… I love how it ruffles under my fingers… if you add a fresh shave to that I am in heaven! I remember seeing this one guy and he was pretty cute… then he took his hat off and had hair longer than mine and I just didn’t see him as cute anymore but my friend (one of the two above) who was with me at the time immediately declared him the hottest thing she’d seen all day! ---

Not _long_ long, but I’ll salivate over just the right lenght of shaggified hair on a guy. As in, John Rzeznik, Ashton Kutchner, Syd Barrett hair. That is, above shoulder length and appropriately messy. (Providing the guy in question can carry it off, of course, as **aasna** mentioned). ---

I like shaggy, generally above the shoulders. However there was a dude in Target the other day with lovely, shiny hair past his shoulderblades, and it looked awesome. It was cut straight across, and wasn’t all split ends and ickiness, and just worked for him. So, long hair is a good thing if it works for you. However, mullets don’t count. ---

If you’ve got the type of hair that looks good long, i.e., thick, straight to moderately wavy, clean, shiny, etc., go ahead and grow it. But please make sure to brush your hair well and put it in a ponytail if it’s windy or you’re around food. I can’t stand it when long hair (whether male or female) is in food. If you don’t have the type of hair that looks good long (be honest) then please don’t try. Being bald looks a whole lot better than a “Ben Franklin” hairstyle. ---

In most cases, YES! But it must be groomed long hair. My brother has hair to die for. Super dark brown, big loose curls…ooh, I want his hair, dammit! We’d do a trade if we could. But if I were dating a guy with hair like his I don’t think I’d be able to keep my hands off of it. ---

I like long hair on guys only if its kind of the messy ruffeled look something like what \*\* Orange Skinner \*\* said but it cant go past the shoulders. ---

I like long hair on SOME guys - preferably skinny ones with guitars. I also have a sort of “thing” for really big guys (tall and broad, even on the “heavy” side) with long hair. Then again, I also like 'em big and bald. No matter what, I like neat and tidy, and I HATE that “I haven’t washed for a week” greasy look. ---

_Love_ a guy with long hair, as long as he’s taking decent care of it. Early on when I developed an attraction to **tdc** , I introduced him to the wonder that is Pantene spray-in/leave-in conditioner to keep his hair soft and tangle-free. 😃 ---

I’m with **LifeOnWry** on this one. ::dreamy sigh:: Long-haired skinny musician boys… Some guys just can’t pull off long hair, though. But usually they realize this and don’t grow it. And I think varying degrees of long look good on different people. In general, around shoulder-length is good, but a lot of guys can pull it off longer. As long as it’s well taken care of and it’s not a mullet… ::drool:: Gimme. 😉 If I had a long-haired boyfriend, I don’t think I’d be able to keep my hands off of it. I am the type of person who plays with hair. I constantly play with my own hair. If I had guy with more hair than mine… ::sigh:: Now ya got me all dreamy. ---

I absolutely cannot stand long hair on guys. I have never met a guy that looked better with long hair than short hair. They might look OK with long hair, but I’d find them inifinitely more attractive with it cut. I’ve dated a couple of guys that had really long hair, and could not make myself like it, and I just talked my friend here into getting his ponytail chopped off about a month ago (and everyone tells him how nice he looks now.) Currently I’m talking to a mostly bald guy, and very happy with it. (Well, his lack of hair, anyway.) So one vote for no long hair, mullet or non-mullet. ---

Mr zoogirl’s hair is longer than mine (midback). He’s played in bands off and on for nearly thirty years and he’s used to it. His family goes grey very early. His mom was white-haired in her early twenties. His is currently silver. Not grey, not white - silver. When it’s fresly washed it just glows. I won’t let him cut it. ---

Long hair on men = a very good thing. If it gets too long it can be a bit weird, but some guys can still pull it off. ---

Depends a LOT on the guy and/or the hair. I had an ex with hair past his shoulders; when it was propery trimmed and non-scraggly, it looked great on him. He cut it all off after we broke up (no correlation, I swear!), and I never could get used to him with short hair. I’m also a sucker for guys whose hair (preferably dead-straight for this purpose) is just a little too long, so it flops down almost into their eyes. It all depends on the situation, but well, I’m an open-minded person. Just so it’s not totally scraggly. ---
