Girls in the band, but not the singer?

Ska-punk band Less Than Jake had a female saxophone player named Jessica, who quit the band around 1998 to become a teacher. She was a real sweetheart, but they’re all great people.

Neko Case played drums in Cub before becoming an alt-country and power pop goddess as a solo act and with the New Pornographers.

When? I didn’t know about this. I’ve only heard of Valeria Fellini and Lisa G. as Cub drummers.

edit: Holy crap. Looks like Neko played on some of Betti-Cola. I did not know this. Allmusic.com completely misses this fact.

And yet another Mellencamp violinist, Lisa Germano…who was, I believe, the first of the female Mellencamp violin (fiddle) players.

There’s a cute chick playing drums in Vincent Gallo’s band in this youtube video of a post-rock performance.

The Zutons have a rather cute saxophonist, Abi Harding.

Hate to break it to you, but Rachel’s a guy.

Motley Crue had Samantha Meloney, of Hole, fill in for Randy Castillo for one of their tours.

Here’s an early one. Linda LaFlamme, the keyboardist of San Francisco proto-psychedelic band, It’s a Beautiful Day. I don’t think she even sang backup.

She left after their classic first album, It’s a Beautiful Day, featuring “White Bird,” and the band was never the same.

Does anyone know about Ash or Sick Puppies? They both have female guitarists, but I don’t know enough by either band to determine if either woman ever sings.

Charlotte Hatherley did indeed do backing vocals for Ash. She is no longer with the group, having embarked on a solo career.

Sorry, but Mo Tucker sings on “After Hours” and the always delightful “I’m Sticking with You”. The second is admittidly an outake, but showed up on the VU album and the box set. Mo has also put out a couple of solo albums.

Did anyone mention Lenny Kravitz’s drummer during the late 90’s and early 00’s?

Nashville Pussy has a rotating lineup of (usually) two girls and two guys with just a male vocalist. I haven’t heard their entire catalogue, though.

Does the E Street Band’s Patti Scialfa sing?
