I totally agree with the OP. I am constantly amazed and horrified by the nerve of people who do not fit into my personal idea of aesthetic perfection venturing outside at all. What is WRONG with you people? If **I** don’t think you look good, why on earth do **you** think you have the right to go around dressed like that just because you feel comfortable, or on the offchance someone else might find it attractive? Of course, I quite often don’t live up to my own stringent standards, so I spend a lot of time in a darkened room at home. But I find it’s worth it, because at least I’m not offending somebody else’s sensibilities. ---

I suppose this is the unpopular view, but count me as one who finds it unattractive when people with not good bodies wear too little clothes. I’m overweight myself, so I cover up. YMMV obviously. I’m not saying they need to rounded up and locked away or something, I just personally find it unappealling. ---

I’d have to vote **against** tatoos and piercings. Most make the person, male or female, look trashy. If the trashy look is what you want, that’s fine with me. In most cases, I’d vote **in favor** of bellies. Unless there is more than one on a single person, or the belly is trying for that ‘waterfall’ look. In this case, more is not better. ---

I like tattoos that are original, and I’m not offended by piercings, although I think either can be overdone and cross the line into ‘ick’ territory. I don’t like belly-showing shirts, regardless of weight, and I’m not sure why. I think I’m just a prude at heart. ---

I think some people have to realize that certain looks are fashionable because they are flattering on certain people. Accordingly, if point of style is to present your best assets in a favorable light, you might want to second think that belly shirt if you have a spare tire and love handles, or muscle shirts if you dont have muscles. Or, to put it in the words of Drew Carey, “If you’ve got it flaunt it. If not, cover it the fuck up.” ---

Speaking as a card-carrying old fart, my view is that the OP sounds like a grumpy old letcher who wants all girls to look just like the ones who ignored him back in high school. Personally, I think tatoos look trashy. Do I care if people choose to look trashy? Not really. Of course, if they look REALLY trashy, then I’m probably going to treat them as if they were. I’m completely uninterested in looking at girls’ bellies, with the exception of my wife’s lovely tummy. Most of the ones I’ve seen in public were quite unattractive. But if these girls want to show their spare tires, that’s their business. I can handle it. Why anyone would travel all the way to Thailand and then waste time looking at tourists’ tatoos or tummies is quite beyond me. - PW ---

I’m a girl. I don’t particularly show a lot of skin. I don’t have a tattoo, but may get one someday. Amazingly, I am this way because it is what I want. Not what someone else thinks looks good. Especially not someone who is grumpy about the females while on vacation in a country which (from what I hear), consists of nothing but monks, prostitutes, and tourists. You’re not a eunuch, are you? ---

Back in the mid 60’s us male pupils carried around briefcases which were quite useful during the early years of the skirt hem above the knee to be followed by the mini. Whenever a pair of naked knees were parted in the seated position or lipsticked lips were bent over to receive the dribble of the water fountain, I could take comfort that the privacy of my loins could be maintained behind the briefcase . Nowadays I wonder what male high school pupils do now that everyone wears backpacks instead. I certainly would have opposed any ban on the mini-skirt which was debated back then. I do have some regrets from back then however. I wish us males had never found tight jeans to be fashionable. Sigh ---

I am sure that you meant this in a light-hearted way, but it sort of makes my hackles rise. Thailand is a complex and interesting place, and the Thai people are, in my limited experience, polite and friendly. But any Thai person I know would be absolutely mortified to hear something of this nature. It’s completely insulting to categorise an entire country this way.
