J, call your doctor’s office and ask “If by some chance I AM pregnant, can I take a Tylenol or drink a beer?” A great many otc drugs are fairly safe to take during pregnancy, and I have never heard that a small amount of booze is anything dangerous. Obviously you don’t want to be smoking crack or doing shooters til 4 in the morning, but then those aren’t really good things to do even if you’re not preggers. Remember that all pregnancies are different. My boobs hurt like a sonovabitch for three months, my sister’s didn’t ever. I had unbelieveable nausea, my sister had none. (On the other hand, _I_ didn’t get stretch marks and my sister now looks rather like a road map in high relief!) The only thing I would worry about right now is the aforementioned ectopic pregnancy - always a risk, HOWEVER, everyone I know who has had one tested positive for pregnancy. There’s no correlation between stress and difficulty conceiving. Absolutely zero, zilch, nada. Please don’t stress yourself out over feeling stressed about taking some time to conceive. Can you organise a blood test? They are definitive – if they are negative, then you know you are not pregnant. Urine tests are less sensitive and in general you cannot totally believe a negative test. It sucks though. Really sucks. It’s not time to panic yet though. You’re well within the norms of conceiving and if you’re charting and the chart looks right and if you have not had a STD like chylamydia your chances are fairly good that everything will be OK in the long run. ---

A lot of hospitals will do a blood test for 10 bucks. Just go, tell them you want a pregnancy test, results in an hour. If the blood test says you aren’t, then you aren’t. If you are, it will definitely show up. Screw the urine tests. My mom never could get one to turn up positive when I was in the oven. I of course can’t say whether or not you’re pregnant, but I doubt you’re having a hysterical pregnancy either. It could be that you’ve simply skipped a period and your boobs just happen to hurt, etc. Get thee to a hospital 🙂 ---

leechboy and I were trying for ages to get pregnant and then decided to get a puppy instead 🙂 Now we don’t try but we don’t use any contraception either so it could still happen. But whilst we were trying I had many false scares. Shortly after stopping the pill I really thought we had succeeded but all the tests came up negative and the Doctor told me that sometimes stopping the pill can give a woman pregnancy like symptoms - gee thanks for warning me Doc. ---

Hey jarbaby, if you really wnt to get pregnant, the next time you and Mr Jar have sex, stand on your head for 10-15 minutes. Gravity will show those little spermy’s the easy route to your egg. Swimming upstream may work for salmon, but sometimes those little spermy’s need a little help. It works, I saw it on ‘Roseanne’. What. ---

Don’t want to get your hopes up, but your symptoms sound like my symptoms when I was first pregnant. We weren’t actively “trying,” so it never occured to me that I was pregnant. I got a light period on time, but I guess it was just a little spotting. With all the nausea, dizziness, etc., I thought I had a brain tumor! The only thing that didn’t make sense was the breast tenderness. Your symptoms do sound consistent with pregnancy. Maybe try a different home test? Good luck. ---

WV\_Woman modern pregnancy urine tests are far, far more sensitive than the ones your mother had access to. Unless you’re really WV\_very-young-girl 😉 ---

Dear jarbabyj, For your own peace of mind, get yourself to Planned Parenthood for a test. I’ve gone through the same kind of stress, never thought I was going to get pregnant and Bam! I am about 2mos. along with #4. I know it’s easier said than done but please try to stop stressing. According to my midwife, the stress was getting in the way of the preganacy. In fact, my first 3 kids were conceived on holiday in Ireland and #4 in New Zealand. While I understand international travel might be a bit extreme for some, its all about treating yourself right. ::sending mom and baby fertility vibes:: Love, G. ---

As a note, at Planned Parenthood around here, they use pee tests…so you pay them $20 to use a $12 home pregnancy kit on you. Meh. I’m going to do my part by sending jarbabyj a fertility totem. ---

sweetpea, go to the ER and tell them you need an X-Ray. They will do everything in the world to confirm whether or not you’re pregnant. Ask your doc about a blood test. From my understanding the blood work can detect a pregnancy earlier than urine. But than, I’m not a doctor, I just play one on tv. ::smoooches::: from Lilly ---

Well. By all indications, I ovulated today…and the breast pain is going away. So perhaps those symptoms were all just jumbled together PMS, pre ovulation, crabbiness. Once more unto the breach… or as Mr. Jar calls it…workin’ in the coal mine. j ---

I tried for six years to get pregnant–did the monitors, checked my temperature before I got out of bed (in spite of my screaming bladder) to chart it, yadda yadda yadda… I know that am-I-or-aren’t-I merry go round. It’s the most brutal thing to experience. Anyway, I got a new husband, we bought a house, and I decided to wait at least a year to start trying. Next thing I know I can’t sleep on my stomach cause my boobs were so sore and I would come home from work and fall asleep after falling back on the bed to take off my pantyhose. I didn’t want to take yet another test, cause I was frankly tired of paying almost ten bucks to get pee on my hands and get another dose of heartbreak. I got a cold, took Nyquil, drank moderately at a party, inhaled hubby’s cig smoke, stressed out completely, and the baby that was miraculously growing was born fine. In fact, the supposed-to-be-sleeping banshee is sounding his hello alarm at you. _sigh_ My advice is to go in debt, go through a major life change, and quit trying. You’ll be pregnant in a month. 🙂 If you want practice, there is a beautiful, though noisy night owl I would be happy to let ya borrow. I could then enjoy a nap…or a shower…or ten minutes to myself!!! Seriously, I will be prayin’ for ya and sending Mommy vibes your way. ---
