Well, I tried it tonight. Not much flow was achieved, because I’m so stuffy, but the resulting snot output was impressive and I felt better in one nostril, at least. I’ll keep trying and see if repeated attempts clear things up.

I have had a cold hit me bad enough this winter that it took 5 or 6 neti pots full to make enough of a dent, and that was with also sitting in a hot steamy shower 
There is no overdose, you can hang in a comfy hot shower netiing until the water goes cold … 
NurseCarmen, this post was simply inspiring. I read the words “prune sized boogie” last night and bought my first neti pot today.
The initial test-run was . . . interesting. No prune-sized boogies, but I feel clean. Just like it went with the saline spray, though, I neti-poured the solution into my right nostril and it ran freely out my left; I poured it into my left nostril and it just backed up in the same nostril. So there must be some sort of one-way blockage in there. I’ll keep working at it in hopes of busting through.
Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for the inspiration!

If my sinuses are inflamed because of a cold, what I usually do is snort a single squirt of nasal decongestant like Afrin up each nostril, wait a few minutes, and then do the sinus rinse.
