It’s too late. In late 2000, we could have given Florida back to Spain, and saved ourselves about a month’s worth of angst. But did we the people take such a reasonable and proactive course of action? Nooooooooo. Even after that horrible election, Bill C had a month to lean into congress to sell Texas to somebody, cleaning up any controversy and as a small bonus making G. Shrub ineligible for office. Hell, there had to be somebody who’d actually buy Texas from us for enough to finance education and a coupla nice little wars. But did we even breathe a word of it to e-Bay? Nooooooooo. Now we’re stuck with George W. for almost another two years (trust me, it won’t be six). And Florida remains our social security problem indefinately. And Texas… sigh. ---

Actually, as long as we’re giving away huge tracts of … land, without asking the people that live there, my vote is to give Mexico to Texas. Just see how the state votes after that! Bonus: No more worries about aliens sneaking across the Rio Grande. Now giving GWB away to some foriegn country - I’ll support that. Re: Houston - I never thought we should give it away; but I always thought the Astrodome wasn’t large enough. It should have been built around the entire city, so that we could air-condition the whole place. (Just another Yankee opinion.) ---

In the 70’s, the most popular bumper sticker in Alaska was **"Happiness is a Texan walking South with an Okie under Each Arm"** A Great Variant of that would be: **"Happiness is Bush Sr Marching South with a Bush Jr Under Each Arm"** ---

I would vote for reinstating the Republic of Texas. We could move the border patrol up to the Red River, where they really belong, keep them yankees out. Then do a massive recall of all military personnel from the yankee government. Ooh Rahh Texas Marine Corps. ---

I bet Britain would like to get the Colonies back, too. On second thought… As for Texas…we won independance from Mexico, and joined the US as a country. Trust me, many Texans would just as soon be an independent country again. When we are grouped together with the wack jobs from places like CA, NY, MA, it sure makes secession look all the better! And there are technically **2** football teams in Texas (we would probably give the Cowboys to somebody as a parting gift!). Oh yeah…Don’t Mess With Texas!! ---

…But then wouldn’t we have to carpet bomb Texas to get control of the Oil? I’m sure we could find some skin head group down there that would qualify as ‘Terrorists’. We could claim they have Weapons of Mass Destruction and then take it back when we’re done… ---
