> See, now that’s just wrong. You can have it, but you can’t buy it? How are you supposed to get it, the booze fairy?

Yes, you put a glass and a 1 liter bottle of mixer under your pillow and the next morning . . . 😃
Actually, most of the dry counties have “unofficial” suppliers who pay a large but also unofficial tax (in small, unmarked bills) to the local law-enforcement guys who then turn a blind eye. The suppliers have strict rules about who they’ll sell alcohol. Any person buying beer **must** have cash money and be able to reach over the counter. Age is pretty much not applicable.
It really is a problem and it’s caused by the bible-thumpers around there. A politician campaigning to repeal the alcohol prohibition will be characterized by his opponent as a sot, and by the bible-thumpers as the next thing to the antichrist. The local law enforcement also has a vested interest in keeping things as they are.
A funny side-effect is the liquor stores placed about 6 inches over the county line. I know of one where you drive through a hellish swamp, no lights, two lane road and heavy forest all around. Black as hell at night. When you come around the last curve there are about a dozen liquor stores in a neat clump. Huge displays and billboards etc. It looks like a tiny piece of Las-Vegas got lost.

Regards
