I grew up in New England, so, by law, I hate the Yankees. Fuck them (it’s the Pit, I’m allowed). I now live one BART stop from the Oakland Colliseum, so I am ipso facto an A’s fan. But I cannot get on the Cleveland wagon. I don’t know what it is about them that rubs me the wrong way. But all in all, I really don’t have much of a clue about baseball. But I do know hype. And the whole Icharo deal I find quite exciting, so I’m rooting for the Seattle Mariners to take the whole enchilada. ---

I’m a Yankee fan, but… The A’s have much better hitting. The A’s have equally good starting pitching. The A’s have beaten the Yankees in the last 6 games played. The Yankees only edge is Mariano Rivera. That isn’t enough. ☹ ---

Come on, the Yankees are egotistical spoiled overprice children. Egotistical–what gall to not put name on the team uniforms. Oooh, I am suppose to know who you are, wrongo bucko. I don’t know all of the position players for the Yankees. Spoiled and overprice–unfortunately that could be said about most baseball players, but the Yankees players just seem to have it in disgusting amounts. The A’s are good. They have pitching, hitting, and ya all know that Jason Giambi is easy on the eye, what else do we need. ---

Jealous, are we, deb? The main objections that I have heard to the Yankees are those two that you mention–overpriced and arrogant. They do have one of the biggest (or the biggest) payroll in major league ball. They also have one of the biggest and most devoted fan bases. I do think that the payroll disparity in baseball is a problem, but I have yet to see any kind of satisfactory proposal to alleviate the problem. And it is obvious that money does not necessarily buy success (see A-Rod). Anyway, my point is–so what if they are highly paid? And arrogant? How does this arrogance manifest itself? By winning World Series? I don’t think that their not having their names on their shirts signifies arrogance–it is their tradition. Or are you jealous that they have a tradition longer than 35 years? ---

**Green Bean** The only way you are talking about the A’s having a tradition of only 35 years is to only count the time they have been in Oakland. Cause the Athletics started in 1901 and the Yankees started in 1903–if my math is correct, that makes the A’s with a longer tradition than the Yankees. You also mention the Yankees winning streak. What is interesting about alot of Americans is we learn to play fair at an early age. We actually grow up liking to see others win. I think this is where part of my dislike of the Yankees springs from. I enjoy watching other teams win rather than the same team over and over. Plus Yankee fans are obnoxious. I will actually avoid the games where the Yankees are playing. I go to over 25 games a year at the Angels and I don’t go to see the Yankees play. I am not saying you are, but alot are. Now you may ask, what do I mean by obnoxious–well the parking lot is more trashy when they are in town. And they take their team way too serious so that if you sit next to one (and remember this is a Yankee away game), they don’t allow for any good humor rivalry. But I do notice you avoided my comment about Jason–ya gotta admit that the Athletics have a cuter team than the Yankees–so there! And they have the pitching. And that jealousy crack–well I will just kick dirt on your home plate and spit on the umpires. Thpppt. ---

As a born and bred **Braves** fan (2-0 baby!), I have to say that having the Bravos win the Series would be a fantastic feeling, followed very closely by having the Yanks lose. Go A’s ! ---

All of the Oakland/NY playoff games will be carried on FOX, while most of the other playoffs have been shoved over to FOX’s cable channels (Fox Family and FX), and it ain’t because _Oakland_ is popular. If Oakland sweeps the Yankees, FOX may panic. They need the NYC ratings to make back what they paid MLB for the TV rights. With the Dodgers out and no Chicago team in and if the Yanks don’t make the WS, this Series may have the lowest national ratings in history. Even so, I hope Oakland wins. Yet another Yankee Series win would be bad for baseball, because baseball fans will just quit following their teams (especially American League teams) if they have little or no hope of being champions. The NBA didn’t really prosper until the Celtics stopped winning championships nearly every year. ---

But I submit for your examination: Tino Martinez And since you won’t recognize him from his name on his jersey: #24, first base. Hubba hubba! One person getting paid a buttload of money does not spell success, because one player rarely makes a team. But a lot of money to different players does, and that’s what the Yankees do. Had the Rangers spent that quarter billion on a couple of good pitchers instead of a slugging shortstop, they’d have had a better shot at winning I think. ---
