My aforementioned friend went to UT, and he and all his friends that I know would not agree with you. To him the biggest rivalry was OU. Of course A&M is a rivalry, just as O State is a big rivalry for Oklahoma, but neither of those compare to kicking the other state’s ass. I spent the entire day at the University Co-op, selling shirts and caps and flags to happy Longhorns on their way to Dallas. The hot items this week were “O Who?” shirts. I’ll be at work during the game tomorrow, but we’ll have the TV on and employees are required to wear orange. I think the A&M rivalry is more traditional than earnest right now. The Aggie fight song includes a line about “Texas University” and UT lights the whole Tower, rather than just the top deck, when the Longhorns win a football game over A&M. The OU game is the one everyone has been talking about. ---

“What, exactly, does E.Z. Million think would draw Texans to see the game in Norman?” Uh, the game? “It’s Baja Oklahoma but it’s Texas in my heart.” That song came from (I think) Dan Jenkins’s book, “Life its ownself.” Anyways, I know that’s a big game, particularly this year. However, here on the _right_ side of the Red River, Miami/FSU, Georgia/Tennessee, Florida/LSU and Auburn/Arkansas command more attention this weekend. To the op’s request for a joke: How do you tell a rich boy from Texas? Answer: He has _two_ cars up on blocks in the front yard. Everybody enjoy their football weekend! 🙂 ---

There’s a lot to do in Dallas, so people make a long weekend of it. Is there ANYTHING to do in Norman? Any good restaurants? Any stellar hotels? ANYTHING that would entice a TExas fan to stay there longer than he has to? NO! If the big game were held in Norman, I’ll tell you exactly what would happen: the few thousand UT fans able to get tickets would head out on the road at 4 AM, get to Norman right before the game, watch the game, and drive home immediately after the game was over. Period. So, there’d be no big payday for Norman. A few gas stations and fast food joints around the stadium would clean up, but that’s about it. Thing is, this is OBVIOUS to everyone except E.Z. Million and the Norman Chamber of Commerce, who actually believe fans would spend all week in Norman, spending the kind of cash they now spend in Dallas! Pitiful. ---

**astorian** : The same arguments that you are using to maintain that game in Dallas were used by Alabama people to try to keep the Auburn/Alabama game in Birmingham, instead of it rotating to the Auburn campus every other year. Are people spending as much money in Auburn as they were in Birmingham? No, but they’re spending a hell of a lot more money in Auburn than they were when the game was in Birmingham every year! I don’t know how the OK people feel about the home field advantage, or if Texas does indeed have a home field advantage in Dallas. When Auburn was playing Alabama in B’ham every year, it felt like playing on Alabama’s home field every year. We (Auburn) like it a whole lot better with alternating sites. YMMV Agreed, as you stated, not as many Texans will be in Norman for a game as are in Dallas. Why should the U. of Okla. care how many Texans are able to get into the game? ---

It’s already too goddamned far to drive now. So, let’s move it even farther. No, I don’t think I’d go if it was in Oklahoma. The game is closer for the Sooners than the Horns. Leave it alone! Try driving from South Texas to Dallas sometime. I was on my way to the game last year and saw a truck w/ Oklahoma plates. I noticed he was standing rather than sitting. I got on the radio (CB) and got hold of him. I asked what the problem was, he said he’d shit his pants. I told him, "Hell, don’t worry 'bout, go on and sit down… He said he would just as soon as he finished…HA HA HA Hook’em ---
