wellll, seriousness can imply so **many** things.

I seriously have no use for spectator sports.

I seriously scorn football above all of the others (probably because back when I was a baseball fan, football was the only real competition baseball had for the title of “National Pastime”).

I do not seriously consider football fans to be mentally defective based solely on the fact that they like football.

But I still like to make fun of them.

That said, the inability to accept and understand Randy Newman as a satirist does strike me as indicative of a relatively low-wattage set of mental processes.

(_How 'bout that? I got onto the topic!_)

Taking _Short People_ seriously is something bj0rn might do, but I don’t really expect to find it happening a lot with Americans of this generation.

I understand that Randy Newman meant the song “Short People” as a joke, but that’s not how some people took it. I’m 4’11", and I remember a lot of stupid jerks back then decided that the song gave them the right to taunt short people unmercifully. Yes, perhaps this is more of a comment on the stupid jerks than on Newman, but there sure were many people who decided that since a hit song was making fun of short people then they could too.
