As you can see from the link, not all of Greater London gets a London post code, and some people consider the post code the decider of what is London proper. ---

Looking at the history of Olympic logos I think marketing has been the death of good design. Suddenly logos are designed by ego-ridden committees wanting it accessible, kid friendly, cuddley, regional, hitorically accurate, international, marketable and colorful. What you end up with is the hot mess that was the 1996 Atlanta mascot, Coily, otherwise known as the blue sperm pooping stars. \ As for the london efforts, some of the public suggestions border on brilliant. I kinda like the the one with the rings as squares with the phrase “We Know What We’re Doing” because it makes me smile. ---

[The Atlanta Olympics logo](http://www.visualeditors.com/apple/2007/06/olympics-logo-continued/) - that’s beautiful! (Second image down.) It catches your eye and makes you think, “Wow. That’s very cool.” The London olympics logo - not so much. It catches your eye, alright, in a Margaret Atwood kind of way. I can see what you mean about [Coily](http://www.sportslogos.net/logo.php?lo=6957), though. That’s very strange-looking. The [Vancouver olympics logo](http://www.sportslogos.net/logo.php?lo=6936) could have some of the same criticisms as the London logo, but I think this logo works for Vancouver, the city being what it is. ---

OK, I’m going to stand up and say that I quite like the London logo, the Lisa Simpson thing notwithstanding. Olympic logos have tended to be rather conservative and corporate looking, and have ended up all looking the same. At least this one’s different. ---

I’ve got to say that _many_ of the alternative suggested ones are simply beautiful, and IMHO, it’s a shame that the official logo looks nowhere near as good. The Lisa Simpson logo raises one question in my mind: Spits or swallows? ---

Wow. I’ve never seen something so badly done in my life. How do you make such crap and get it voted as the official logo. It begs for “What the fuck!” No really what the fuck is that? Now for the alternatives, specifically formerly five . Oops. Bad one, but it would be less humiliating to wear than the official logo. ---
