Trolls by their very definition are trying to evoke specific responses from people, responses they usually get when people take them seriously and treat them like a normal poster worth engaging. I really don’t think it could, unless enforced by a moderator. Too many people won’t see that message, coupled with the fact there is no universal agreement when it comes to the definition of troll. ---

A major component of concern trolldom is finger-wagging over perceived bad manners by supporters of a particular policy, which the concern troll says are fatally damaging the cause which he/she is simultaneously doing his/her best to impair. ---

So it’s not that the suggestion is bad because, if followed, the troll wouldn’t go away. The suggestion is pointless because it will never be followed. The closest we’ve come is the recipes tactic, which often succeeds in cutting short a troll-heavy discussion in certain threads. ---
