You’re, missing the point here: you’re responding to a troll. You’ve already lost.
I think you are missing the point: Trolls thrive on all responses, including yours.
You have 21 posts here. Hmmm
I’d go look, but I don’t really care, but I’m willing to bet you have a bunch in all his threads.
Don’t let the pot call the kettle black. Ya know?
Factually incorrect, otherwise trolls would just post like a normal person.
Trolls by their very definition are trying to evoke specific responses from people, responses they usually get when people take them seriously and treat them like a normal poster worth engaging.
The end goal is to get a rise out of people, but sometimes they build up to it a bit.
That’s certainly an admissible argument, but, uh… you see the irony, right?
I most certainly do. Just curious, though-has “If everybody ignored them they would just go away” (sometimes said repeatedly, btw) ever had the desired effect?
I believe it “could” work. But we’ll never find out.
I really don’t think it could, unless enforced by a moderator. Too many people won’t see that message, coupled with the fact there is no universal agreement when it comes to the definition of troll.
Exactly.
I don’t care if they go away. To me, they are a non-entity, and I want nothing more than for y’all to have that same kind of peace.
I don’t think he’s a troll, he’s just a genuinely stupid guy who thinks he’s raising points that nobody’s ever heard before. He heard someone say “this is how you get Trump”, and thought it sounded like a scorching zinger, and thought he’d take it for a test drive.
In a little while he’ll huff away complaining about groupthink or canceling or dogpiling, unless he flames himself into a ban.
Rosie Perez hired J Lo for ILC Fly Girls.
Celine Dion is queen
He’s a concern troll:
A major component of concern trolldom is finger-wagging over perceived bad manners by supporters of a particular policy, which the concern troll says are fatally damaging the cause which he/she is simultaneously doing his/her best to impair.
So it’s not that the suggestion is bad because, if followed, the troll wouldn’t go away. The suggestion is pointless because it will never be followed. The closest we’ve come is the recipes tactic, which often succeeds in cutting short a troll-heavy discussion in certain threads.
And sometimes the recipes are good!
It’s a million years before your time but… The Mary Jane Girls…?
Here’s a whole discussion:
The old “I was going to support the war against Hitler, then that mean old Churchill called him ‘a monster of wickedness’ and that was just uncalled for” ploy
Though the contours are the same, I don’t think the intent is the same.
He seems more determined to prove that he’s not right, he’s not left, he’s some special third thing. He’s a savvy operator, a loose cannon who marches to his own drummer, his ideas are far too independent and sophisticated for two-party sheeple to understand.
We’ve seen lots of this type on the board. It’s what happens when dumb right-wingers get their predictable arguments destroyed so much that they change branding in an attempt to outflank the right-wing stigma.
Or, it also happens in the other direction, when someone’s pretending to be a liberal for whatever reason, and the facade starts to fall apart, they start carping about being “politically homeless”, which lasts a very short time until they predictably find their forever home on the right, where they spend the rest of their days blabbing about “why I left the left”. There’s a lot of money and attention in that grift.
