In other news, it is buck season (deer have no natural predators in WV, its always some kinda deer season here) and a couple of licensed hunters from the city confused a bulldozer with a buck and shot the heck out of it. The dozer driver must have gotten confused himself because he had no business dozing his way to the grove. Howdy Y’all! We assisted our Canadian brothers and sisters to celebrate Turkey Day, except without the turkey. Sup was so nummy! Plus leftovers for tomorrow. WIN-WIN! There was the usual RDOS sloth as well. We day drank some moderately priced champagne, cause why not. **JtC** _Dark Shadows_ was the thing to watch back in my pre-teen, younger teen years. It was a rush home from skool to watch. I am sure I could find it somewhere if’n I bothered to look. Hope the long drive was enjoyable. The snack box for the high skool is such a super thing to do! Cool of mom cardinal to show the young’uns where the good stuff is. I see now the drive was nice plus Mexican comestibles. Hope all goes well with the house thing. I understand none of it, but I do hope folks behave themselves. **BrightTree** so glad your dad is still doin’ so well. Hope some suitable solutions can be found for stepmom’s care down the road. Oh, and welcome back! I am sure Ollie is over the moon to be back with his mommy! **Mollie** hope **Squeaky** gets into UAH since that’s where he wants to be. Called mom. No arguments. 🥳 She’s having surgery tomorrow - a cardiac implant - and having consulted Dr. Google and looking at what random anonymous strangers post, she is now having many last-minute concerns. I reminded her that people usually post when they’re unhappy - satisfied customers just move on with their lives - and that she can always ask more questions, raise concerns, and even back out of the procedure right up until she’s put under anesthesia & cut open. “Yeahhh, but once I check in, you know, I can’t do that, I couldn’t just cancel …” YES YOU CAN, WOMAN. He has always felt better right away and if asked would highly recommend your mom goes through with it. Here’s a thread for film photography: [The Omnibus Film Photography Thread](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/the-omnibus-film-photography-thread/1007354) If you want to get into film, I might suggest a [Canon AE-1 Program](https://www.kenrockwell.com/canon/fd/ae-1-program.htm). It was my first 35mm SLR, and has automatic exposure, shutter- priority AE, and manual. Or you could get an Olympus OM-2n or a Nikon FE2, both with aperture-priority AE, plus manual. They’re all pretty inexpensive nowadays. Digital photography is more modern and you get instant gratification, but I’m too old to really appreciate it. ---

I was scanning the closed for the day stuff with 3 other guys today. Went well mainly. I did my Aldi run after, and fueled up Carmen. My PC hard drive is pinin’ for the fjords, so I’ve ordered a new one. Spot “assisted” me in squeegee-ing the tub this morning. Evening all. Gym was completed with 20 minutes in the whirlpool and soccer was refereed, so Dairy Queen provided the Chee-burger and Fries for dinner (they make a pretty darn good hamburger for being a dessert-oriented place). Had to do some soccer accounting and watched a little baseball and tackleball, so late in getting back with all y’all. A good day and the scale now says I weigh 202.4lbs, so back where I started the year from, which is a good place for me. Cooled down to 68F so should be a comfortable night, might open up the windows again. She’ll have at least one exceedingly highly trained person all to herself handling all those ‘what ifs’. It’s fairly unlikely at this point in her life she’d have an allergic reaction if she hasn’t before. It’s very common that her first IVs will have a whopper dose of Benadryl to ward off any reactions anyway. Her job? Be brutally honest in telling the nurses and docs everything, prescriptions and over the counter stuff, the number of drinks in a week, etc. it’s better to list too many details rather than too few. And to not cheat on the instructions to not eat or drink after X o’clock-that one matters~if she’s gotta cheat, tell her to do it on her taxes not preoperative prep. And you are so right, people report endlessly on the negative and blithely breeze on about all the just fine/ok/good stuff. I hope it all goes smoothly for her ---

(Yes, they’re all in the collection.) I love Olympus cameras, but the OM-4 has the annoying ‘feature’ of not being able to turn it off unless you remove the batteries. (While the OM-4 replaced the Canon AE-1 Program, I still suggest the Canon for a first 35mm SLR.) I haven’t decided yet, but I think I’ll load the OM-4 with B&W film. ---

Years ago - I think it was her hysterectomy - they were wheeling her into surgery, she was on the gurney and was all like, “Should I be asleep?” and they JUMPED. “Yes, madam, you’re supposed to be out cold.” “Well, I’m not.” ---
