# God damn rain!

I was going to put this in the Pit, but it’s just too mundane and pointless. I just can’t work up enough vitriol. It’s been raining for two days here. Constantly. Non stop. I feel like I’m in a rain forest. I just had my dog groomed on Thursday. She’s pure white. Or she was. Now her bum is all dirty and wet from squatting too close to the ground. I’m glad my other dog is a boy and can whiz while standing. The rain is in the phone lines. My dialup connection is only 19 kbps. And it’s not supposed to stop until Monday.

I nearly broke out in song and dance when I woke up this morning and saw the rain, because it means that we probably won’t have any more fires in the next few weeks like we thought we would. And then I heard that it was raining so hard all over Southern California that several counties, including San Diego, were on flash flood warnings, and that mudslides were also going to be a serious danger. I haven’t heard if that’s happened, but it’s been pouring non-stop since this morning, and this is the first time since I moved to San Diego 10 years ago that I can remember the wind blowing so hard that I could hear the rustling of the trees outside.

Well, okay, since I see they just issued a flash flood warning… I’ll concede it’s kind of bad. Very glad I don’t have to go out in it- I’m still having terrifying flashbacks from driving in last summer’s monsoon rains.
It’s really pouring down out there.

We had a pretty good rain, yesterday. Good for Phoenix, anyway. Many streets flooded, etc. Any time it rains like that, I’ll have a lot of driving to do that day. It’s a rule.
This morning, taking a leisurely walk around the mini block of the row of condos, I come across, in front of my door. (at the end of the walk, I had gone deosil, instead of widdershins, today) is the tree in the commons, on the ground. Good 30+ tree. It fell so as to cause no damage. There was a light pole it could have taken out.

Hey, I like to see rain here, which usually comes only every 4-6 months anyway. Otherwise, I’m apt to forget what that strange stuff is, cascading down from the sky.
What is funny in AZ is that when it does rain, the local TV newscasts all feature it as he lead story, showing various clips of rain.
And don’t forget, you don’t have to shovel the stuff out of your driveway.

When I lived in **Queen Bruin** ’s area I loved the rain. A gully-washer in the desert is a wonderful thing. I love the smell, and I love the wet. I really enjoyed the big plywood shark’s fin someone put in Rogers Dry Lake. I used to climb up on the roof to watch the T-storms.
Right now I’m watching the first snow of the season fall gently in the yard.

Yes! I threw open all the windows yesterday and curled up with a pot of Earl Grey. It was wonderful. I hope we get plenty of rain and a deep freeze, 'cause last year’s wildflower season was very deficient.
The only thing that really sucks is trying to navigate the dirt (mud) roads after a downpour.
