So go ahead with your pitting; I shan’t defend them. You’re right. Chris Martin married Gwyneth Paltrow. And to stay on topic…I fucking HATE Coldplay with the white-hot intensity of 1,000 suns! I always hear them lumped in with Keane, who I absolutely love. Coldplay, on the other hand, are bland, yet have an overblown sense of themselves. They remind me of U2 in that sense. Both lead singers seem to have huge egos and a ridiculous stage presence. I know this wasn’t the most coherent rant, but I’m still working on my first coffee. ---

Another one who likes Coldplay here and has since pretty much their inception. I’ve already doused myself in petrol, I just need someone to tie me to the stake. ---

My only major beef with Coldplay is that they’ve somehow convinced rock radio stations to play them. Keep them on MOR easy listening stations where they belong, and there’d be no problem. ---

I suppose then that this wouldn’t be the best place to mention that er… I have “This friend” who likes them a alot. You’re not going to beat me up now are you ? I do hate Bush…that is my "friend " hates Bush too I mean… ---

I love Keane, too, but their music totally seems like they have an overblown sense of themselves: the two aren’t mutually exclusive 🙂 Then again I’ve never seen interviews, etc. about Keane so I have no idea what their self-assessment/interpretation, etc. is of their music. At least if they did happen to have a high self-opinion of their importance it’s more deserved than Coldplay, U2, and Radiohead. ---

I like “Yellow” and “Fix You.” All their other songs are equally bland and interchangeable. I don’t understand the appeal of male lead singers with high, whiny voices, like Coldplay and Maroon 5. My sister loves Coldplay and has seen them in concert, but even she will admit that a lot of their songs sound the same. ---

I told my husband last night, “I think I’m getting old. Is this what kids are listening to these days? Who are these guys? They SUCK!” And then Marvin Gaye & Stevie Wonder came on. ::sigh:: Yep. Old. ---

I’m not a Coldplay fan but I watched their interview on \*60 Minutes \*last night. While they seem like nice blokes (if a bit too earnest and bland), I was also struck by just how much everything they do is geared towards being The Most Popular Band On the Planet. They have a list of band rules with things like, “Wear bright colors onstage as they are visually appealing to the audience.” They try to write songs with the most mass appeal possible. I mean there’s nothing inherently wrong with ambition or wanting to be successful, but it came off so…calculated. ---
